Chapter 692 The Wasteland Bandits' Attack
Chapter 692 The Wasteland Bandits' Attack
Tanaris, Gadgetzan.
This goblin city, situated at the junction of the endless desert and the azure coast, is usually filled with the noise of bargaining, the roar of machinery, and the explosions of various strange and failed experiments.
However, at this moment, what resounded throughout the city was another sound—fearful screams, the clash of weapons, and wild, violent shouts!
"Stop them! For Gadgetzan! For profits!"
A goblin wearing exaggerated goggles and oil-stained work clothes was shouting at the top of his lungs, waving a wrench that was taller than him and crackling with electricity, trying to organize an effective defense.
However, his high-pitched voice sounded so powerless amidst the chaos.
This is Bigewitz, the chief engineer of Gadgetzan Water Company, and the de facto ruler of Gadgetzan.
"Block them my ass! There are too many of them! Get into the bunker!"
Another goblin beside Bigwigs—the wealthy merchant Nogfogger—was currently sprawled behind an overturned wooden crate, his hat nowhere to be seen, and his musket still emitting smoke, clearly having just run out of ammunition.
"The guards are almost wiped out! Where did these damned wasteland bandits come from?!"
"Damn it! Good riddance! The guards were saying just two days ago that they had driven all these thugs to a cave in the southeast, and they even came to me asking for a lot of rewards. Everyone, retreat in an orderly manner and back to the bunker!"
The attackers were a group of bandits hiding deep in the Tanaris desert.
They were called bandits, but they were actually a group of locals from various ethnic backgrounds.
Resources are scarce in the desert. Since the water company came here, they have practically taken over Tanaris. The goblins control the most important water resources, and everyone else has to buy water if they want to drink it.
Unable to survive, the already impoverished locals resorted to robbing goblins.
Riding on ugly desert kodos and herding hyenas, clad in tattered leather armor and wielding rusty swords and axes, they stormed through Gadgetzan's more symbolic than practical wooden walls like a locust swarm.
Their goal was clear—water, and the various supplies the goblins had stockpiled.
In the desert, these two things are hard currency, even more real than gold coins.
The battle became one-sided.
Goblins are naturally short and weak. Although they can cause some trouble for bandits by using their engineering creations, they are no match for these fierce bandits in close combat.
In addition, the goblins weren't fighting seriously at all. They knew these peasants would just grab a few things and run away, so there was no need to risk their lives for such a small amount of money.
"Quick! Get into the bunker! Activate the defensive runes!"
Seeing the morale plummeting and the defensive line crumbling, Bigewiz shouted an order at the top of his lungs.
The surviving goblins, like startled groundhogs, squeaked and scrambled into the underground bunkers reinforced with heavy metal and rock throughout the city, slamming the doors shut behind them.
Some goblins chose a different path—they scrambled onto the baskets of the hot air balloons docked in the square, attempting to escape the chaos from the air.
"Take off! Take off!"
One of the goblins shouted to his companions and frantically tried to untie the restraint rope.
"Idiot! The fuel tank isn't full yet!"
Another goblin stared in despair at his nearly empty fuel gauge.
The bandits clearly weren't planning to let any goblin escape easily.
A bandit leader with a hideous scar on his face grinned and waved his hand, ordering, "Release all those colorful balls! Let these green dwarfs fend for themselves in the sky!"
The bandits laughed wildly as they cut all the tethering ropes of the hot air balloons and even punctured several air bladders with spears.
Several hot air balloons began to rise erratically, and the goblins in the baskets screamed in terror as they drifted away in an unknown direction with the turbulent desert winds.
Many more hot air balloons, however, failed to take off due to damaged airbags or improper operation, plunging the goblins on board into despair.
Just as Gadgetzan was about to fall.
"roar--------!!!"
A powerful dragon roar, like rolling thunder, exploded in the sky, instantly drowning out all the noise!
A massive red shadow, obscuring the sky, approached at an astonishing speed!
The intense heat even distorted the scorching desert air!
Akalitha, carrying Elwynn and Green Shadow, descended from the heavens like a divine warrior, instantly soaring over Gadgetzan!
Elwin stood atop the dragon's towering head, his robes billowing in the fierce wind.
He looked down at the chaotic city below, at the rampaging bandits and the desperate goblins, his golden eyes burning with rage. He took a deep breath, infusing his voice with the power of holy light, and roared down like a god proclaiming: "Listen up, you people below! I don't care who you are! Lay down your weapons, stop looting, and get out of Gadgetzan!"
His voice, like a booming bell, clearly resounded throughout the entire battlefield, making everyone's eardrums buzz.
The bandits paused, looking up at the terrifying red beast in the sky with suspicion and uncertainty.
Elwyn continued to roar, his tone undisguised in threat: "If you dare touch a single blade of grass or harm a single goblin here again, I will have my companions burn the entire Gadgetzan, along with you all, to the ground! Nobody will escape!"
To increase its intimidation, Akalitha opened its massive maw, and a chilling crimson light gathered deep within its throat, radiating a temperature powerful enough to melt rocks!
At the same time, her immense dragon might descended as if it were a tangible force, causing many bandits to tremble with fear and lose their grip on their weapons.
"A dragon...it's a giant dragon!"
"Run!"
He's going to burn us all to death!
The robbers were completely panicked.
They can be arrogant and domineering when facing goblins, but when faced with a furious red dragon, their ferocity is instantly replaced by boundless fear.
Someone shouted first, and the bandits fled like headless flies, crying and screaming as they headed for their mothers, wishing they had two more legs. Some even jumped out of the gap in the city wall, not even caring about their mounts.
Meanwhile, Alvin messaged Akali: "Akali, save those hot air balloons!"
The red dragon let out a clear, resonant roar, its massive wings flapping as it nimbly chased after the hot air balloons that had drifted into the distance. Carefully, with her powerful claws, she precisely grasped the edge of the baskets, and like an eagle snatching chicks, she steadily lifted the baskets carrying the terrified goblins back, gently placing them on the central plaza of Gadgetzan. The goblins inside, already paralyzed with fear, only realized they were saved after a long while, and then huddled together, weeping bitterly.
Elwin had Akalitha land in the plaza, and he and Green Shadow jumped off the dragon's back.
He had expected to be met with the goblins' tearful gratitude, but the entire square remained deathly silent.
The goblins who had hidden in the bunker showed no intention of coming out.
Only the few goblins who had just been rescued in the square stared in terror at the red dragon so close at hand, trembling and too afraid to move.
