Chapter 686 The Pendant Moved
Chapter 686 The Pendant Moved
Sandys took a few steps closer, her brow furrowed.
"Now that your reminiscing is over, shouldn't we get down to business?"
The sourness in her voice could be heard far and wide on the mountain wind.
"How do we quickly devise a plan to reach Un'Goro Crater and stop Gojal? Or do you want to stay here and endlessly discuss the private affairs of some deep-sea creatures?!"
She practically spat out the last few words through gritted teeth, her voice tinged with anger.
The wind on the mountaintop seemed to grow even fiercer because of her words.
Alvin felt embarrassed, as if he had done something wrong and been caught red-handed.
He subconsciously touched his nose, his gaze drifting towards Akalitassa, Stella, and Green Shadow not far away.
This sight sent chills down his spine.
Akali Tasha puffed out her cheeks, her big ruby eyes wide open, looking like she was saying, "You're secretly whispering to the Naga behind our backs and laughing so happily," her little mouth pouting so much you could hang an oil bottle on it.
As for Stellagrassa, Elwynn felt as if the temperature around him had dropped several degrees in an instant.
Although Miss Blue Dragon remained standing quietly in place, her azure eyes were no longer the deep ocean, but had transformed into an unyielding polar glacier. Her icy gaze was like tangible ice needles, piercing him as if to freeze him and the conversation they had just had together.
She pursed her lips tightly, her delicate chin slightly raised, radiating a low-pressure aura that screamed "I'm very unhappy."
Even the usually gentle and graceful Green Shadow, though still squinting as if asleep, had lost some of the serene smile on her face.
I'm only saying this in private!
As it turned out, these girls had incredibly sharp ears, and they could hear everything clearly even from such a distance!
Alvin was inwardly groaning.
Vicky was enraged by Sandy's impolite words, and a cold glint flashed in her snake eyes.
"Hmph, land elves, is this how you treat your guests?"
Vicky's voice was no longer coquettish, but carried the majesty of a Naga sea witch.
"I was discussing Lady Vashj's formal invitation with Lord Elwin. How dare you interfere?"
Shandis refused to back down, stepping forward to confront Viches: "An invitation? Establishing a base on the edge of the Kaldorei's sphere of influence and then sending envoys to extend an invitation—the Naga's sincerity is truly unique! I think you have ulterior motives!"
"presumptuous!"
"rude!"
The atmosphere between the two women, a cold and aloof sentinel general and a bewitching and dangerous Naga sea witch, instantly became tense, as if they were about to fight at any moment.
"Stop! Stop! Everyone stop!"
Alvin was in a real bind, so he quickly stepped between the two of them, spreading his arms wide.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen! Calm down! With a formidable enemy at hand and Gugar still at large, we must prioritize peace among ourselves, between different factions!"
He first looked at Sandy, gesturing for her to calm down, then turned to Vickis, forcing a smile as sincere as possible: "Ms. Vickis, thank you very much for Ms. Vashj's kindness and for relaying your message. However, as you can see, we do have very urgent matters to attend to, concerning the safety of the entire region. We can discuss the invitation later, shall we? We must return to camp immediately."
Vichy glanced at the serious-looking Sandy, then at Elwin who was clearly trying to smooth things over, and snorted, slightly reducing her hostility.
She turned her gaze back to Elwin, her icy, serpentine eyes instantly transforming into alluring, seductive ones, her voice regaining its previous softness: "Of course, business is important. But, Lord Elwin, don't forget our agreement~"
She deliberately dragged out her words, giving him a meaningful, flirtatious wink.
"Cordelia and I will be waiting for you in the deep sea~"
That last flirtatious wink and drawn-out tone were incredibly effective!
"hiss--!"
Almost at the same time as Vichys finished speaking, Alvin cried out in pain.
He felt a sharp pain in his left lower back. Without even looking, he knew that it was Sandy's cold fingers that had precisely pinched a small piece of soft flesh through his clothes and rotated it half a circle clockwise!
Alvin winced in pain, gasped for breath, and his face contorted in agony. He hurriedly waved his hands at Vickys, practically jumping up and down as he explained, "We'll see! Ms. Vickys, please don't talk nonsense! I only accepted the conch shell! I never said I would definitely go!"
His disheveled and desperate attempt to clarify the situation was a stark contrast to his composed demeanor when negotiating with the Naga leader, making him appear utterly ridiculous.
Vicky watched this scene and couldn't help but laugh again, seemingly finding it very amusing.
The Naga said no more, twisting her serpentine body eerily, and led the group of Nagas away, disappearing swiftly like the receding tide into the rocks and paths at the edge of the platform, leaving only her evocative laughter echoing in the mountain breeze.
Alvin, on the other hand, found himself in an even more dire situation. He rubbed his arms and waist, which had been pinched so hard, and looked at his female companions with their various expressions. He felt that his journey ahead was unlikely to be peaceful.
As he had expected, the journey back to camp proved to be the most difficult and longest of his long adventures.
He followed almost step by step behind everyone, a near-fawning smile plastered on his face, constantly muttering apologies and explanations:
“Stella, listen to me, you really can’t take those Naga’s words seriously. She just said that on purpose…”
"Akali, don't be angry, look, you've pinched my arm so badly it's bruised..."
"Green Shadow, you're still the gentlest, it's just that you hurt a little just now..."
"General Sandys, I assure you that I will prioritize the mission above all else and have no other intentions!"
"What right do you have to talk to me?! I have nothing to do with you!" Sandys retorted angrily.
It seems the results have been minimal.
Erwin felt like a child who had made a mistake, and was being collectively ignored by his harem.
"Think about it, I can only swim by doggy paddle. If I went into the sea, I'd just be fish and shrimp food. How could I possibly go to Vasir?"
"I swear to God, I really can't appreciate the Naga's slippery aesthetic! I much prefer, well, something warmer!"
As soon as he said that, he immediately felt several even colder gazes directed at him, and quickly shut his mouth.
He kept smiling and explaining until he saw the sentry flag flying over the camp in the distance. By then, Alvin felt his face was almost frozen from smiling, and his throat was dry.
He took a deep breath, ran in front of the crowd, spread his arms to block their way, and made an extremely solemn concluding statement: "I, Elwin, swear in the name of the Holy Light!"
He placed his right hand on his chest, his expression as solemn as if he were taking an oath in a temple.
"Absolutely! I will never go down into the sea to find that Ms. Vashj! In short, I will never go to the deep sea to cause trouble just because of a few sweet words from that Naga! I'll just keep that conch shell as a souvenir, I promise I won't brag!"
He looked at them longingly, his eyes filled with sincerity.
Perhaps seeing his genuinely "sincere" attitude throughout, or perhaps feeling that continuing the commotion would be pointless, Stella turned her face away first. Although she didn't speak, the chill around her seemed to dissipate somewhat.
Akalitha curled her lip: "Hmph, that's more like it!"
Sandys simply said, "Remember your vow. Let's go, we've arrived at the camp."
Elwin felt like he had been granted a pardon and let out a long sigh of relief, feeling even more exhausted than if he had fought Imhotep for three hundred rounds.
The group returned to the military camp, and before Erwin could even have a sip of water to catch his breath, a sudden change occurred!
The green dragon pendant hanging around his neck began to vibrate violently without warning!
