Chapter 205 Nirvana Rebirth
Chapter 205 Nirvana Rebirth
Aftermath
The valley was unusually quiet after the battle. The air was thick with the smell of gunpowder, and the ground was littered with unburned branches and broken equipment. Cheng Yuwei leaned against Ling Xiaotian, feeling his hand tightly gripping hers, as if afraid she would leave again.
"Xiaotian, you're bleeding!" Cheng Yuwei suddenly discovered that Ling Xiaotian's waist was soaked in blood, and her face turned pale instantly.
"It's just a minor injury, nothing serious." Ling Xiaotian tried to downplay it, but the loss of strength made his voice sound a little weak.
Cheng Yuwei didn't dare to delay for a moment, and immediately opened the first aid kit, skillfully cleaning his wound, stopping the bleeding and bandaging it. Her hands were steady, but her eyes gradually turned red.
"Silly girl," Ling Xiaotian looked at her with a smile, "Who was it that said you weren't afraid of danger just now? Why do you look like you're about to cry now?"
Cheng Yuwei raised her head and glared at him fiercely: "Do you know that you almost died? I haven't even started crying yet and you're laughing at me."
Ling Xiaotian was stunned for a moment, then sighed softly: "Okay, I was wrong. I will never let you be frightened like this again."
She didn't say anything, but just lowered her head and continued to work, but a tear still quietly slipped down from the corner of her eye.
Team members' reunion
The reinforcements completely wiped out the remaining enemy forces, and the remaining squad members gradually returned to the camp. Although everyone was exhausted, seeing that each other was still alive, everyone smiled.
"Sir! Sister-in-law!" A young soldier ran over excitedly, "We won!"
Cheng Yuwei was stunned for a moment when she was called "sister-in-law", and then her face turned red. Ling Xiaotian patted her shoulder nonchalantly and said, "Everyone has worked hard. Have a good rest tonight and prepare to return tomorrow."
The soldiers cheered and dispersed. Cheng Yuwei glanced at Ling Xiaotian and whispered, "Who is your sister-in-law?"
Ling Xiaotian smiled calmly and teased her deliberately: "What else? You don't want to admit it?"
Cheng Yuwei glared at him angrily, but ultimately did not refute him. She actually felt a little sweet in her heart.
A warm dinner
After returning to the temporary camp, Cheng Yuwei took out a few small cans of food and dry food she had with her, cooked a pot of simple soup, and distributed it to the wounded.
Ling Xiaotian wanted to help, but he sat back in the corner because of the pain from his wound. Cheng Yuwei came over with the soup and handed it to him: "I cooked it, try it."
Ling Xiaotian took it with a smile and took a sip: "Not bad, much better than the food in the barracks."
Cheng Yuwei shook her head helplessly: "You still have the mood to pick food at this time?"
He put down the bowl and looked at her seriously: "After going through so much, I found that a bowl of hot soup and a familiar face are more precious than anything else."
Cheng Yuwei's heart trembled. She didn't say anything, but just sat quietly beside him and drank soup with him. The lights in the camp swayed, reflecting on the two people's faces, making them look particularly soft.
Plans and Future
As the night deepened, the soldiers gradually fell asleep, with only the patrolling sentries still walking around the camp. Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei sat by the fire, gazing at the sparse stars in the night sky.
"What are we going to do next?" Cheng Yuwei asked in a low voice.
Ling Xiaotian pondered for a moment and said, "I will take you back to the city and hide for a while. Once the situation stabilizes a little, I will make other arrangements."
"Are you still planning to stay and fight?" She looked at him worriedly.
Ling Xiaotian nodded: "Over the years, my brothers have shed too much blood for the country and the people. I can't just give up like this."
Cheng Yuwei was silent for a moment and sighed softly: "I understand your choice, but you must also remember that we need you too."
Ling Xiaotian was stunned for a moment, then reached out and held her hand: "Yuwei, thank you."
"Thank you for what?"
"Thank you for being with me, even through this life and death situation."
She forced a smile and shook her head: "As long as you are still alive, everything is worth it."
New Challenge
The next morning, Ling Xiaotian led the team out of the valley. Along the way, Cheng Yuwei continued to act as the team doctor, treating the wounded and trying to alleviate their pain.
However, when approaching the next assembly point, the spies brought news: a large enemy force had tracked them nearby, and they had to evacuate as soon as possible, otherwise they would likely fall into a new encirclement.
Ling Xiaotian frowned. "Looks like we have to change our original route and go around the forest on the east side."
"But the mountain road on the east side is rugged, which is not good for the wounded." The adjutant reminded.
"There's no other choice." Ling Xiaotian said decisively, "As long as we can save everyone's lives, the hard work is worth it."
Cheng Yuwei gritted her teeth and said, "I will do my best to take care of the wounded. Don't worry too much."
Her firm attitude infected the surrounding soldiers, and everyone nodded in agreement, ready to follow Ling Xiaotian and take the risk to break out.
Hope and waiting
During the march, Cheng Yuwei noticed that Ling Xiaotian's wound was bleeding again, so she forcefully asked him to stop and rebandage it. He wanted to refuse, but seeing her insistent look, he had no choice but to cooperate.
"Xiaotian," Cheng Yuwei whispered, "No matter how dangerous it is, I just hope you can take good care of yourself and don't make me worry about you anymore."
Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly and reached out to hold her shoulders: "I promise you, as long as I still have breath, I will definitely come back alive."
Cheng Yuwei nodded, trying to suppress her worries and continued to follow the team. Although the road ahead was still full of unknowns, they both knew that they had to go on hand in hand.
