Chapter 304 - 303: Nyx is allowed to trash talk Sabrina
"Gladion's Gliscor has been defeated, folks, without doing anything much. Are we heading towards an upset?" the commentarpaused for dramatic effect before continuing.
"But in its last ditch effort, it had used Poison Spikes. So whenever Sabrina switches to another Pokémon, the Poison Spikes field would be activated and they would be poisoned. What a good move before getting knocked out by Gliscor and Gladion."
Gladion thought quietly to himself, 'Psychic types are strong against poison types, so this move would not do much. But even a little poison working is enough to slow down her Pokémon.'
Sabrina stood calmly on her side of the field, waiting for Gladion to send out his next Pokémon. Gladion chose someone who could handle Sabrina's psychological attacks and give it back to her ten times more.
"Let's go, Nyx," Gladion said as his Umbreon appeared on the battlefield. He spoke to her telepathically. 'Nyx, remember how I always stop you from messing with Sabrina? She is being naughty today, so you are free to say whatever you want.'
Nyx looked at Sabrina with a wide grin on her face. They had developed a good relationship during the past few years, but Nyx loved messing with her a lot.
[Ah, we meet again, my favoured rival who managed to triumph even me,] Nyx said in a sad voice.
"Triumph what?" Sabrina asked, raising one eyebrow.
[Triumphed me with your beauty to take my master's love…] Nyx continued, placing a paw over her chest like she was heartbroken. [For years I was the only dark beauty in his life. The one who comforted him at night. The one who protected him from shadows. And now you come along with your long hair and cold stare, stealing him away like a thief in the night. How cruel fate is. I used to be his number one. Now I am just… second place. A supporting actress in my own story.]
Nyx wiped away a fake tear. [I hope you are happy, Sabrina. I hope stealing my master's heart was worth breaking mine into tiny little pieces. I will never recover from this. My poor little heart is shattered. I might have to retire to a dark cave and become a lonely hermit Umbreon who only comes out to curse happy couples under the moonlight.]
She sighed theatrically. [Well, now do you feel better that you finally managed to get something you never should have? Is your life goal accomplished? To have the most beautiful and powerful psychic by your side while the rest of us watch from the shadows? Tell me, Sabrina, is it everything you dreamed of? Do you lie awake at night thinking about how you took him from me? Or do you feel a little guilty when you see my sad eyes?"
Nyx kept going.
Sabrina glared at Nyx, but there was a small twitch at the corner of her mouth. She clearly found the Umbreon's acting both annoying and slightly amusing. But unlike their last time, She had better control of her emotions and was not getting effected by them....just yet.
She switched out Alakazam and sent in her Espeon who was hit by the poison spikes field effect.
'Bold move to use Espeon against Umbreon,' Gladion thought.
While Sabrina thought, 'I have to be careful about what moves I let Espeon use because Nyx can be using Copycat anytime.'
"Psybeam!" Sabrina ordered.
Espeon fired a beam of psychic energy at Umbreon. Nyx responded instantly by using Copycat to fire a similar attack back at the same strength. The two beams collided and clashed in the middle of the field.
For a moment they were equal in power. Then, for some reason, Espeon's Psybeam power suddenly increased and overwhelmed Nyx's version. The stronger beam pushed through and hit Umbreon, making her skid back across the grass.
'She empowered her Espeon move with her own psychic energy so the Copycat move would lose. Clever,' Gladion thought as Nyx skidded back from the attack.
Nyx shook herself off and looked at Sabrina with a dark grin. [Wow, using the power of two against little old me. Aren't you very determined to win this? Tell me, are you so determined in this match because you know that against Master, you are nothing but a bug? He has so many achievements and you have nothing? You want to prove that you are not worthless against him, right? But compared to Master you always would be nothing.]
Nyx was now ready to give the final blow,[It must be hard being in his shadow all the time. The great Sabrina, queen of psychics, always coming in second place to the man with the legendaries. Does it keep you up at night? Do you train extra hard just so he might notice you a little more? How cute. How pathetic. I almost feel sorry for you. Almost.]
She tilted her head. [But go on. Keep trying. Maybe one day you will win a battle against him.]
Whatever Nyx had said, there was some truth to it. Sabrina's expression tightened slightly. Gladion winced internally. 'I guess that is what I get for letting Nyx trash talk.'
Espeon stepped forward protectively. [Don't listen to this vile cat, mistress. Your beauty is unparalleled and that is why Master Gladion had chosen you. You are graceful, powerful, and intelligent. This Umbreon is just jealous because she cannot compete with your elegance. Pay her no mind. We will show her what real psychic power looks like.]
This seemed to refocus Sabrina. She nodded to her Espeon.
Gladion ordered, "Nyx, use Quick Attack."
Nyx rushed at Espeon at very fast speed. Sabrina, still slightly disoriented by Nyx's words, made a wrong judgment. She ordered Espeon to use Teleport to dodge the Quick Attack.
Gladion and Nyx smirked at the same time. Gladion ordered, "Nyx, Teleport and Iron Tail."
Nyx, who had copied the Teleport, appeared above Espeon and slammed down with a glowing Iron Tail. The hit landed cleanly. Espeon was injured but got up with a groan.
Sabrina decided to withdraw Espeon. She needed it for later if Gladion was going to use Mystique in the match.
Gladion thought, 'Her Espeon could have still given Nyx some trouble. She is planning something.'
