Chapter 25 Soul Jar
Chapter 25 Soul Jar
The Hermit's Hut in the Woods, recommended for level 15, is a small maze with a relatively small forest area inside.
The main enemies in this maze are three mini-bosses, and there are hardly any regular monsters.
Of course, it's obvious that the quest giver in the hut, the skeleton mage, is also someone you can fight.
This maze itself comes with a quest, and the quest is quite simple.
After entering the hut, any player who is not a Paladin or similar class with a faction affiliation can accept a commission from the Skeleton Mage to kill three "monsters," using the same story repeated by Yu Che.
In reality, those three "monsters" were the skeleton mage's previous experimental subjects. When he was conducting experiments, he broke his soul urn into three parts and put them into their bodies. As a result, the three experimental subjects went out of control and ran away.
So the skeleton mage is now trapped in the house and can't go anywhere. He can only try to lure the people who have entered the maze to help him retrieve the soul urn.
If the player who comes is at or below his level, he will turn on him and start a war after regaining his power; if the player is more than 5 levels higher than him, he will not only not fight, but will also give you a large reward as promised, and then run away as soon as possible.
Of course, at this point, players can also try to be the first to keep him, as this will yield the most generous rewards.
This quest isn't too difficult, but the rewards are quite good. Even in the early stages of the game, it's one of the most recommended dungeons to tackle.
Of course, since the mazes in the game also spawn randomly within a fixed area, whether you'll encounter one is another question.
Even You Che took two days to find his target.
He specifically came to this maze because he wanted to learn a spell after completing the mission.
In his plan, it was a crucial piece of the puzzle to enhance early-stage combat effectiveness.
After traveling for a while through the forest, the trees became increasingly sparse, and the stench of undead creatures began to permeate the air.
You Che slowed his pace and quietly approached. Sure enough, he soon discovered a Boneclaw Wolf moving about in the forest.
It was a bone wolf, half the height of a human, possessing the typical characteristics of an undead creature, with soul fire flickering in its empty eye sockets.
Embedded between its ribs was a small bone urn, about the size of a palm, which was exactly what the skeleton mage needed.
Clearly, as experimental subjects for the skeleton mage, these three "monsters" required for the mission are all undead creatures: the bone claw wolf in front of us, a giant rotting corpse pieced together from corpses, and a bone spike gargoyle.
These three mini-bosses are all between LV10 and LV12. In essence, they are just ordinary monsters without a boss template. Apart from being a bit higher level, they are not very difficult.
As for the Skeleton Mage, once he recovers to his full strength, he will be at LV15, which corresponds to the recommended level for conquering the dungeon.
Leaving aside the skeleton mages, these three are not even as high level as the three mid-bosses in the prologue. In addition, they are undead creatures, and their weaknesses are obvious. So even though Youche is only LV4 now, he is confident that he can deal with them.
You Chequan stealthily approached to a suitable distance and then took out a holy water bottle from his backpack.
Needless to say, this thing is a bottle containing holy water, with a variety of uses, but the simplest and most brutal use is to throw it at people.
The ten holy water bottles in the Baron's magic pocket were probably just reserves, but now they've become Youche's weapons.
Holy light has a restraining effect on dark forces, but strictly speaking, these two forces should restrain each other. If we're talking about which attribute is truly completely dominated by holy light, then it has to be the power of the undead.
Therefore, the holy water bottle is extremely effective against these undead creatures.
As for the Blessed Spear, it is indeed more effective, but in terms of both the difficulty of obtaining it and the number currently held, it is much more precious than the Holy Water Bottle, so Youche naturally wouldn't use it casually.
Of course, even without the Holy Water Bottle or the Blessed Spear, Yuche is confident he can take down these three quest monsters, it just will take a while.
Youche waited quietly until the Bone Claw Wolf got close enough, then he raised his hand and threw the Holy Water Bottle!
Besides his experience with "Dark Fantasy," as a veteran player of a certain series of games, accurately throwing pot-type items into three-point shots is an instinctive reaction for Yu Che, not to mention that he now has skill assistance.
So the holy water bottle traced a perfect arc in the air and smashed into the Boneclaw Wolf's head without missing a beat.
The bottle shattered, and holy water splashed everywhere, landing on the skull of the Boneclaw Wolf as if a highly concentrated acid solution had been poured on it, corroding its head at an extremely rapid speed!
The Boneclaw Wolf struggled violently, its bones and teeth clashing together with a sound that seemed like a scream.
But that wasn't the end of it. While it was still struggling, several more flying axes came swirling around it, all aimed at its head!
The throwing axes were still covered in shimmering light, as You Che had opened the second bottle of holy water and applied it to the axes to temporarily enchant them.
This enchantment effect is not very good, and its duration is very short. It basically becomes ineffective once the holy water dries up, but it is sufficient for this purpose.
The axes, faintly enchanted with holy water, slammed down one after another, the continuous attacks successfully tearing open the already fragile skull of the Boneclaw Wolf, revealing the flickering soul fire inside.
After this attack, the Bone Claw Wolf was left with only half its health.
Bone Claw Wolf
[Level: 11]
[HP: 94/220]
You Che then capped the second bottle of holy water, which was still mostly half full, and threw it, this time smashing it directly into the newly opened skull cavity!
First came a crisp cracking sound, then the soul fire inside the Bone Claw Wolf's skull suddenly leaped up, then suddenly seemed to burn out, dimming abruptly, and the Bone Claw Wolf itself collapsed to the ground.
You Che then approached, checked its condition, and then drew his dagger to finish it off.
"Click—"
When the Bone Claw Wolf's health points reached zero, You Che's experience points also increased significantly.
Level: 4 (Experience Points: 163/400)
Since it was a monster kill at a higher level, the experience points gained did not decrease at all.
He immediately began cleaning up the battlefield, but unfortunately, two of the axes he threw out were worn out and corroded by the undead fire, so they had to be discarded.
You Che was aware of this, but he didn't care. After retrieving his still-usable axe and collecting a small amount of usable materials from the Boneclaw Wolf, he set off to find his next mission target.
……
Half a day later.
You Che wrapped three similar-looking bone urns in coarse cloth and carried them on his back, returning to the skeleton mage's hut.
He has already achieved three mission objectives.
Of the remaining two, the giant corpse was not difficult to deal with. Although it was the highest level at LV12, its movements were so clumsy that even Youche, whose agility was only 5, could not keep up.
Furthermore, because it possesses flesh and blood, it is the only one of the three quest monsters that can be affected by Blood Explosion and Poison.
So the process is self-explanatory. Youche directly chose the kiting tactic, using Blood Explosion and Poison to continuously bleed him out, saving him the need for Holy Water Bottles. It just took a little more time to whittle him down.
For You Che, he knew exactly what attacks these low-level ordinary monsters would use, and kiting them was a piece of cake.
If I had to pick one, the level 10 Bone Spike Gargoyle was the most difficult to deal with.
This creature's body is made of a mixture of bones and stones, and because it has large areas of rock skin for protection, even hitting it with holy water bottles is not very effective.
Although you could choose to grind it down, who knows how long that would take to scrape it?
So, in the end, Youche used another blessed spear, piercing it into a crevice in its body and shattering its bones, finally defeating it.
Now that he had collected all three soul urns, he could go back and turn in the quest.
However, whether it was because these things were considered "quest items" or because they weren't purely inanimate objects, they simply couldn't be stored in the magic backpack, so Yu Che had to carry them back with him.
Now that he had the key prop, there was no need to pretend anymore, so he rushed upstairs, kicked open the study door, and shouted:
"Are you awake? I found your urn!"
