Chapter 1 The End of the World
Chapter 1 The End of the World
In the apocalypse, what's more terrifying than zombies?
The Earth, on which humanity depends for survival, cannot wait for the zombies to be eradicated...
Base H061 is the last remaining government military safe base in China during this zombie virus crisis, and one of the four remaining government military bases in the world. Due to China's large population base, plus survivors who fled from neighboring small countries and private bases, Base H061 is also currently the largest survivor base in the world.
Because this base was always managed by the government and guarded by the military, it was the first base to break through the bottleneck of the zombie-X3832f mutant strain vaccine. At that time, survivors from all government and non-government managed bases around the world cheered and looked forward to the day when this crisis would end.
However, misfortunes never come singly. On the very day the vaccine was announced to be officially put into use, a sudden meteor shower once again sealed humanity's fate.
The damage this meteor shower inflicted on Earth is immeasurable. Humanity, already dwindling in numbers, faces annihilation once again. Humanity is forced to quickly launch "Project Star Sea," building enough spaceships in a short time to transport the last remaining humans to find another habitable planet. This could be humanity's complete extinction, or it could be their only chance of survival…
Lu Yuan stood on the high wall surrounding the H061 base. This steel wall, which was built with reference to the ancient city wall of X Province, was 100 meters high, with four lanes in both directions on the top and a 10-meter-high gun emplacement on the outer side. It was the base's first line of defense against zombies.
This is a powerful base. If it weren't for that meteor shower, Lu Yuan felt that China would have basically resumed production and daily life by now.
The thick snow on the high wall has almost melted, but it has only been 4 hours since the extreme cold of -80°C was reduced to nearly 20°C. In another 4 hours, the temperature will rise to over 40°C, and then before 12 o'clock, it will soar to around 80°C.
In the year following the meteor shower, Earth's climate fluctuated irregularly between extreme cold and extreme heat. Scientists continued to observe and finally deduced a suitable time for spacecraft launch, which was the eight hours between each transition from extreme cold to extreme heat.
Today is the day the last group of humans leave Earth. Lu Yuan has not yet boarded the ship. He is still standing on the city wall, watching the endless army of zombies crashing against the wall on one side, and the last group of survivors and the soldiers protecting them lined up in an orderly manner with large and small bags to board the ship.
Lu Yuan wondered how all of this had happened.
Summer of 2074.
That was a night that Lu Yuan would never forget, even more so than when he first saw a zombie.
He was a perfectly straight young man from 2074, a straight man whose goddess was a two-dimensional character, and he was actually slept with by another stranger?
He couldn't quite remember how things turned out like this last night. He vaguely remembered going to a bar to drown his sorrows, and then, yes, it seemed like he took the initiative himself. He was the one who grabbed that man and started crying on his own.
And then, now.
I feel like I was taken advantage of. I vaguely remember the guy saying he'd help me out. Help me with what? In bed? He doesn't care about ethics after he's done his thing.
The worst part is that Lu Yuan has absolutely no recollection of what the other person looks like. He's pinning his hopes on the hotel's security footage, but asking the hotel for that kind of footage seems rather awkward…
"Ding! Hello! I am your room service butler. There is less than an hour left before the 14 PM checkout time. Do you want to extend your stay? Please use facial recognition here to extend your stay." Lu Yuan was still annoyed in bed when the hotel's smart AI voice sounded. At the same time, a floating recognition panel appeared ten centimeters away from Lu Yuan's left cheek. Just by looking at this setup, you could tell that this hotel was ridiculously expensive.
Sure enough, as soon as the interface appeared, the pricing standard immediately appeared below: "24-hour extension discount of 8% off, 12-hour extension discount of 9% off".
"Holy crap, what kind of heavenly hotel is this, 30,000 a night? No way, no way!" Lu Yuan jumped out of bed, rushing to the bathroom while replying to the AI, afraid that if he replied too late, the 13,000 would be taken away from him.
Despite his discomfort, Lu Yuan quickly took a shower in the bathroom. While drying his hair, he couldn't help but look at his reflection in the mirror, which was covered in marks.
He's 20 years old this year. Although he's been self-sufficient for the past four years in university, which has led to some malnutrition and his homebody nature has made him look rather pale and thin, he still has the good foundation laid by his grandparents. He's reached the highest standard male height in G province at 175cm, and he even has a few abs that are gradually disappearing. All of this, combined with his slightly chubby face, makes him, in the words of the senior he met when he first entered university, a "beggar's dream guy."
Sigh, I can't really blame that person from yesterday. After all, given what I did, probably not many people could refuse, but being taken advantage of is still very unpleasant. Although I can't remember exactly what they promised yesterday.
"Hey, at least I'm a real adult now!" Lu Yuan successfully convinced himself to forget about the freebie incident and stood at the hotel entrance with three minutes to go before 2 PM. There were five days left until the deadline to pay his father's exorbitant medical bills.
