Chapter 180 Hunting Opportunity
Chapter 180 Hunting Opportunity
'I see.'
As I listened to Maya, I thought to myself, "It makes sense that she wants to see us in person if she organizes a trip."
If she simply sends a message, most of her classmates probably won't accept her suggestion.
'Well, personally, I don't think it's a bad thing.'
In the game, this won't happen because travel isn't closely related to the club. Even if a player joins a club, most events will still occur within the academy.
But I anticipated some changes, and these changes aren't necessarily bad. For me, a change of scenery, along with visiting some historical sites, is a good thing. It allows me to gain a deeper understanding of the world.
I know this world is the same as the world in the game, but that doesn't mean I know everything. So, learning and observation are the best options.
That was my thought, but what Mason said next made me even more convinced.
“I think it’s great. I’ve always wanted to see what it’s like to visit a real historical site.”
Since Mason is a demon contractor, I knew from the moment he agreed that he saw this trip as an opportunity.
That makes perfect sense.
Outside the academy, alone with Sylvie… there couldn’t be a better opportunity for him. Given the recent events and the heightened vigilance of both the academy and the Federation, he had certainly taken this trip as an opportunity.
"Then it's settled. See you on Saturday." After Maya finished the discussion, the students turned to their friends.
As always, Mason approached Sylvie with a friendly smile.
"Sylvie, are you free? How about we go get some drinks? The rest of you can come too."
boom!boom!
My gut feeling told me that Mason was using his demonic abilities. This is how they usually do it; they have countless different spells that can influence a target's mind.
However, Sylvie's reaction this time was different from before. She looked at Mason calmly and replied briefly, "Not interested."
'Um? '
Her expression and attitude were completely different from before. Previously, she would always participate with a smile and the other students, but now she looked at Mason with displeasure.
Mason's smile froze instantly, clearly caught off guard by the unexpected turn of events. He tried to salvage the situation: "Come on, this will be fun. We can relax together."
boom!
This time he used even more demonic energy in an attempt to break Sylvie's guard.
However, Sylvie remained unmoved; her calm expression turned angry and resolute. "I said I'm not interested, don't talk to me anymore." Her tone was impatient, her gaze sharp as she stared at Mason.
'She must have sensed the demonic energy within Mason.'
With her recent awakening, Mason's deception abilities seem to have no effect on her. Only this can explain why she behaves this way.
"Forget it, if she doesn't want to come, don't force her." At this moment, the girl who had been with Mason tugged at his shirt and glared at Sylvie.
'Does she like him?'
When a person shows interest in others when they are interested in someone else, they usually become more assertive.
"This was her own choice, and she missed the opportunity you gave her. You don't need to waste your time on someone who doesn't appreciate you."
Her words proved this point.
Mason noticed Sylvie's change in attitude and finally backed down, forcing a smile. "Alright, alright. No need to get so worked up. If you change your mind, remember to let me know." He walked away, trying to appear casual. But when he turned back, I saw a subtle change appear on his face.
The moment his smile vanished, his face turned serious and filled with hatred.
'You've shown your true colors... but don't worry, you'll soon get your just desserts.'
After Mason had walked away, Sylvie turned her attention to me, her expression softening as she took a deep breath. "Shall we leave now? I don't want to stay here any longer."
"Okay." Seeing that she wasn't feeling well, I agreed to her request, and we left together.
The tense atmosphere seemed to ease after we left the classroom, but Sylvie seemed troubled by her behavior.
“You must be very surprised,” her voice was weaker than usual. “I’m sorry to have you see this.”
“It’s okay,” I replied. “You don’t need to apologize. It’s natural to stand up for yourself if someone makes you uncomfortable.”
Sylvie was a gentle girl, and she always had been. But from this moment on, she understood that something had to change.
Sylvie paused, looking directly at me. "Aren't you going to ask me anything? Aren't you curious why I'm suddenly like this?"
I stopped in my tracks. Understanding the details of her thoughts wasn't a bad thing; I could guess some of it without needing to explain.
Do I need a reason?
"what?"
"What I mean is, do you need a reason to make the decision you did just now?"
"Don't you need it?"
"No need. To me, you're just saying you don't want to go out, that's all."
"But isn't this a bit sudden?"
"Maybe so, but aren't you human too? People sometimes get angry for no reason, and no one is always the same. I can spend five hours a day doing something and not complain for a whole month, but suddenly, I might not want to do it anymore, and I might hate it. Haven't you ever felt that way?"
"I have."
"That's right, isn't it the same?"
Sylvie pondered for a moment, then a smile appeared on her face, as if she understood something.
"You're right, maybe I'm being too hard on myself."
"That's right. You don't have to explain yourself to everyone; it's okay to prioritize your own feelings."
This is what I want her to understand. She has always lacked confidence, and it's not hard to see the challenges she will face in the future, especially since she will certainly be in a high position eventually.
She needs to learn to stand up for herself.
She nodded, and as we continued walking, I noticed a subtle change in her demeanor; it seemed as if the burden on her shoulders had lessened.
“Thank you,” Sylvie said after a moment, as we walked out of the building. “I feel much better now.”
"It's ok."
"Well then, have a nice day. I'm off to see my friend."
After she finished speaking, she walked towards her friends, and the two girls waved to her.
One of the girls glared at me angrily, but I didn't sense any hostility in her eyes.
I looked at her for a while, then turned and left.
'Now is the time to prepare.'
This trip is not just an opportunity for them.
'This is also my opportunity.'
Once we leave the academy, I can use my power without any worries, no longer needing to fear the overseers in the "safe zone".
'Finally, I can get rid of all this trouble.'
......
"What a great opportunity."
This was Mason's thought when he heard the society was going on a trip. It was an opportunity he had been looking for, and his superiors were becoming increasingly uneasy.
Who does she think she is?
He watched as the girl he was infatuated with became angry.
"How dare she reject you so rudely?"
Mason had her firmly under his control; he had done this countless times before, and she was merely a tool for him to achieve his goals. He usually chose to ignore such complaints.
"Calm down, Taylor."
But Mason was in a bad mood and couldn't calm down. Although it was his mission, being rejected in front of everyone made him extremely angry.
“How can I stay calm? She just embarrassed you and me in front of so many people! You deserve everyone’s respect,” Taylor retorted, clearly not understanding the depth of Mason’s anger.
Mason's jaw tightened, his fists clenched, and his frustration gradually turned into a stronger anger. "Enough! You think I don't know?" he said, grabbing her neck tightly.
"Ugh!" The girl struggled under Mason's control, but she was no match for his strength.
"Listen carefully while I'm speaking." His eyes flashed red for a moment, and the girl slowly lost her resistance.
"I'm...I'm sorry."
Mason released Taylor, shoved her away forcefully, and made her stagger and fall to one side.
His eyes still held a hint of red, reflecting a mixture of anger and frustration.
As Taylor apologized in a low voice, Mason whispered, "That bitch's time is running out. Nobody can humiliate me like this and get away with it. Don't worry."
He glanced at her dismissively, turned and left, leaving Taylor alone. However, he suddenly stopped, as if realizing something, and looked at the girl.
Her breathing was rapid, but there was a strange glint in her eyes; something was wrong.
Mason's attitude suddenly changed. He seemed to have sensed something from Taylor's reaction that prompted him to change his mind. "Come here," he commanded, and Taylor approached him like a puppet, without saying a word.
“I’m sorry,” Mason whispered, gently pulling her into his arms. As he spoke, a supernatural power emanated from him, enveloping them both. The surroundings darkened instantly, creating an almost surreal atmosphere.
In the darkness of the night, their lips met, and the girl let herself fall into his arms.
