Chapter 64 Views
"There are no such people anymore."
Watching him leave, those words echoed in Ethan's mind. That lonely figure and the emotion in his eyes lingered in his mind.
A sense of frustration and worry welled up inside him. He knew Morse had his reasons for hiding his emotions and maintaining that calm facade. But his answer to that question... revealed something unusual.
"To be honest, I didn't expect to get an answer when I asked this question."
The thought of his niece nearly losing her life filled Ethan with anxiety. He had never experienced the pain of losing a loved one, and he dreaded that feeling.
He wanted to be with his niece all the time, and he was sure his aunt felt the same way.
"Is this how Morse feels? Has he lost someone close to him?"
The thought lingered in his mind, replaying their conversation. He saw vulnerability in Morse's reply, a pain he was unwilling to share.
Why is he so withdrawn? What happened? And what prompted him to give such a blunt and sorrowful answer to that question?
"Ugh......"
He sighed, rubbed the back of his neck, and felt a mix of frustration and determination.
“Morse is right, we’re not close. Sigh... what a complicated guy.”
Ethan sighed and slowly walked back to the training area. He realized he couldn't force Morse to open up, just as he couldn't force his own emotions to subside.
The fear of losing a loved one is a heavy burden, and he is only now beginning to understand it.
Just as he was lost in thought, a familiar voice called out to him. "Hey, Ethan!"
He turned around and saw Lucas and Julia approaching him with their usual enthusiasm. The twins, with identical smiles, resumed their lively chatter.
“Looks like you’ve gotten lost in your own world again. We’ve called you four times already,” Lucas said with a mischievous smile.
Ethan smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I think I just spaced out."
Julia raised an eyebrow. "What are you thinking about? You've been acting a bit strange lately."
Ethan hesitated for a moment, then decided to share a little. "Hmm..."
Lucas interjected with understanding, "I see, it's about Jane, right? Is she alright?"
Ethan nodded, his face showing a mixture of relief and worry. "More or less. She said she's fine, but I'm still worried."
Julia sighed dramatically and shook her head. "Sigh... You can't worry about her like this. It doesn't help her at all."
“I know.” Ethan smiled shyly.
Snapped
A familiar, rough hand slapped his back again. Although the stinging sensation was familiar, Ethan didn't protest this time.
“Let’s go get something to eat, it’s on me today,” Julia announced cheerfully. Her intentions were clear, and Ethan appreciated her kindness. “Maybe you can chat with that gloomy guy while you’re at it.”
Ethan simply smiled at Julia's joke without correcting her. This lighthearted conversation and banter was exactly what he needed at that moment.
So the three of them left the training ground together. As they walked together, Ethan felt a sense of warmth, reminding him that he was not alone.
......
"There are no such people anymore."
Ethan wasn't the only one who heard this. There was another person listening to Ethan and Morse's conversation.
'Is this related to his feelings?'
She was preparing to leave; as a therapist, she usually finished her training earlier than others, so her 'body' couldn't keep up.
Just as she was about to leave, she overheard the conversation, which immediately piqued her interest. The usually radiant Ethan now seemed troubled and emotionally disoriented.
This piqued her curiosity, because she had never seen Ethan so worried. But what he said next took her by surprise.
'There are no more people like that, huh?' When she heard those words, she saw the emotions surging in Morse's eyes. Those emotions that were consuming him momentarily broke through his cold exterior, and she could feel them.
'Something must have happened in his past.' She couldn't help but wonder what it was.
But just then, she heard a call.
"Hey Sylvie, what are your plans for today?" her friend asked with a smile. "If you're free, would you like to go out together after class?"
The suggestion seemed like a good one. She'd been busy with club activities and assignments for the past week and hadn't had much time to relax.
She was starting to feel tired and wanted to release some pressure. "Sounds good." Sylvie smiled slightly, feeling her own fatigue creeping in. "I need to rest too."
However, what followed was something she didn't want to hear.
Her friend's eyes sparkled with excitement as she continued, "Great! There's a party at the college today. It's organized by the food club, and I heard they've prepared amazing dishes. Plus, some handsome upperclassmen will be there too."
Sylvie declined without hesitation. While going out to relax with friends sounded tempting, a party with guys didn't suit her need for relaxation.
As a pretty girl, she had naturally been asked out on dates by some boys. However, as someone who could sense other people's inner feelings, she could sense the ugly emotions hidden within them.
Calling it ugly might be an exaggeration, but it wasn't what she liked. She knew about the hidden lust in those people, and she preferred romantic touch.
Moreover, when she heard the word 'party,' a face popped into her mind, making her even more uncomfortable.
“Thank you for the suggestion,” Sylvie said politely but cautiously. “But you know I’m not interested in parties or anything like that. I just don’t like those kinds of occasions.”
Her friend's smile wavered slightly, but she remained undeterred. "Come on, Sylvie, something interesting might happen! And there will be handsome upperclassmen. You never know, you might even meet someone you like."
For some reason, Sylvie sensed a fluctuation of dark emotion, but it quickly disappeared.
She shook her head, her face resolute. "I'm really grateful, but I'm not planning on dating anyone right now. And parties really aren't my style."
Her friend sighed, clearly disappointed, but still hopeful. "Okay, if you change your mind, remember to let me know. We'd love for you to join us anytime."
After realizing that Sylvie wouldn't change her mind, her friend moved on to talking about other plans for the day.
"How about we study together after class?"
"Okay, okay, let's continue learning..."
......
"Tsk." I muttered dejectedly, my brow furrowed as I looked around the training field.
The air was thick with the marks of battle, a result of my intense training.
Arrows scattered all around, the lingering aura of my magic permeated the air, and the ground bore the marks of my tireless efforts. Despite the obvious traces of my hard work, I was still not satisfied.
"I need to figure out how to use my magic more effectively," I muttered, my frustration escalating.
The image of that demon contractor still lingers in my mind, constantly reminding me of my shortcomings. Even my previous conversation with Ethan has quietly entered my thoughts, making me begin to question my own responses.
"Why did I respond like that? Am I becoming childish?" I asked myself, a rare sense of weakness creeping in. That impulsive response was very unusual for me, and it made me uneasy.
Bang
I slammed my fist against the wall, a sharp pain piercing my palm. "What's wrong with me? Why am I actually enjoying this pointless conversation?" I muttered in frustration, blaming myself for letting these distracting thoughts occupy my mind.
Bang
Another punch released the pent-up frustration. "I have no right to wallow in these trivial matters," I said sternly to myself, my voice firm as I criticized my own weakness.
Bang
Another punch, each strike an attempt to quell the strange emotions surging within me. "Stop, you idiot. Get back on track, remember why you're here. How are you going to face her when you see her again?" I reminded myself, the pain in my hand becoming a constant reminder.
As the pain shot through me, I forced myself to stand and gripped my bow tightly. Drawing back the arrow, the familiar weight of the weapon offered me a small measure of comfort.
With these emotions in mind, I threw myself into a new round of training, focusing on shooting techniques.
I close my eyes and imagine myself as the mysterious figure who appears in my recurring dreams. Every movement is precise, every arrow is carefully considered, and the image in my dreams seems to draw ever closer.
This time, I felt I was getting closer to that figure's movements. Slowly, I was improving. My special skill was being understood little by little.
Whizzing
Arrow after arrow. Today's training isn't just about archery; I plan to challenge myself with a more difficult form of combat.
A method of constantly switching weapons during combat. Because my class is [Weapon Master], I am proficient in many weapons, and I need to maximize their advantages.
Although my body isn't strong in close combat, I should still be able to use weapons perfectly, regardless of whether my body supports it or not.
As the training continued, my senses became more acute, and my awareness expanded to the world around me.
The training grounds seemed to be filled with simulated monsters, each a product of the training system. These constructs were powerful adversaries designed to challenge every student in the academy.
Swoosh
I fired an arrow, which struck the bird-like monster squarely in the eye.
劈
I immediately switched to my dagger and slashed at the greyhound monster.
bang bang
As the two monsters fell to the ground, I observed my own performance.
Using both a bow and a dagger at the same time is difficult.
Due to the bow's unique structure, rapid switching is extremely difficult. It might be possible with a gun, but it's really not easy with a bow.
But I'm still making progress.
At least, this is training me to prepare for the future.
And so, I seamlessly switched from bow to dagger, but the battle with the monster made me realize that my movements were not as fluid as I had imagined.
I tried to make everything as perfect as that figure, but it was difficult.
So I trained until nightfall, and as I was about to leave the training ground, I suddenly sensed several people leaving. Not just one, but three.
Ethan, Irina, and Julia. I saw the main characters walking forward, laughing.
Are you feeling much better now?
"Yes, releasing stress through training is very effective."
"Indeed. Thank you."
"If you want to thank me, treat me to dinner next time."
"Tsk... Julia, you're so stingy."
"I'm not."
"Yes Yes Yes."
Seeing them like this, I understood that Ethan was trying to relax.
'But that's not my business.'
And so, I returned to my room...
