Chapter 58 Rampant
Chapter 58 Rampant
After I left the museum, I looked around and saw what had happened.
Regardless of their plans, the fact that the aid arrived so late can only mean one thing.
"Monsters are rampaging."
And the signs of this are obvious.
Swoosh!
I could still see hunters fighting monsters scattered around the city. It was clear that the scale of the monsters' attacks was extraordinary.
"I don't understand, why have I never heard of anything like this in the game?" I saw the hunter ask himself as he fought other monsters. Since I wasn't carrying any weapons, I wasn't involved in the hunt.
But things were slightly different from what I had imagined.
“Even Kaya Hartley would have a hard time covering up what happened here.” This attack could not be hidden no matter what, especially for Ethan.
"Either the game's content has changed, or I've missed something," I pondered, racking my brains. But ultimately, I couldn't come up with an answer; the only explanation was that the Hartley family's power far exceeded my expectations.
Whoosh! Boom! Boom!
Suddenly, I felt a bit hot around me.
No, I should say "around" is a bit off. It should be that the flames were attacking the monsters in the surrounding area.
"Step back! I'll take care of them!" came the excited voice of a young woman, her hands ablaze with flames.
Her long hair danced in the center of the battlefield, and her golden eyes burned like the sun.
Whoosh! Boom! Whoosh! Boom!
A horde of monsters lunged at her from all sides, their roars creating a chaotic cacophony. But the girl met them head-on, her laughter ringing out like a battle cry. "Come on, you ugly creatures! Let's see who reigns supreme in this battle!"
Her words echoed with the bursts of flame, each attack precisely striking down her enemies. The way she wielded magic reminded me of a mage I knew, and her personality was vividly displayed on the battlefield.
As the monsters drew near, she spun and danced, flames swirling behind her like fire.
Whoosh! Boom! Whoosh! Boom!
The battle continued, each swing of her arm unleashing a burst of flame that burned away the monsters in her path. Her laughter followed her everywhere, a testament to her enjoyment. "Come on! Burn!" she cried, her unwavering smile and infectious enthusiasm contagious.
Whoosh!
Just as a monster lunged at her from behind, she sculpted the flames into intricate shapes, creating a wall of fire to block the ferocious creature's attack.
With a confident smile, she said, "Hehe...you think I didn't notice? Now, let it burn!"
Whoosh! Boom!
Her movements were as swift as lightning, weaving through the monsters, leaving a trail of destruction in the flames around her.
In just a few seconds, all the monsters here were wiped out, not a single one was left alive.
"Phew...it's so hot..." She raised her hand and calmly wiped away the sweat, then looked around. "But it's actually quite interesting."
I could see her smile because she was addicted to the thrill of combat, standing on corpses.
However, the consequences of her fiery attack became apparent. Traces of her magic were left on the buildings and surrounding environment, while other hunters stared at her with puzzled expressions. The damage she had inadvertently caused was not to be underestimated.
"Hey! Who are you?" A voice broke the silence in the crowd, drawing the attention of those around. The onlookers appeared cautious, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and wariness.
The reason is simple. She was the girl who came to the rescue but caused even more property damage in the process. Everyone here could have done that, but they didn't.
"Does it matter who I am? And why are you asking me? I just saved you all," the girl replied, frowning, clearly displeased with the question.
"Sure enough, she's just a child," I thought, observing her tone. She's a child who craves attention and acts without considering the consequences, wanting things but shirking responsibility.
It's that simple.
The hunter in charge clearly dismissed her answer, walking towards her with his arms crossed. "Saving us doesn't mean you can wreak havoc. We could have dealt with those monsters instead of turning this place into a disaster zone."
Irina's fiery temper seemed to intensify, and she retorted, "Oh, please! Can't you do better? I see you struggling here."
The hunter's expression remained serious, his tone authoritative. "Our mission is to protect the city while minimizing collateral damage. Your actions here are extremely reckless."
Irina's hands burst into flames, her anger evident in her clenched fists. "Listen, I don't need your lecture. I'm not some novice mage who can't control his magic. I've dealt with the monsters, and if a few buildings have burned down, so be it."
A murmur of agreement rippled through the audience, and some hunters reluctantly nodded in understanding. However, others still stared at Irina with suspicion and disapproval.
Just as the argument seemed about to escalate further, another voice broke the tension. "Wait a minute, everyone."
All eyes turned to the speaker. A new face stepped forward, a thoughtful expression on his face, observing Irina. His gaze seemed to contain a mixture of cognition and understanding.
“I think I know who she is,” the man said, his tone calm yet full of confidence.
The audience's attention shifted, their expressions revealing obvious curiosity. The atmosphere seemed to change as everyone waited for the person to provide an explanation.
The newcomer turned to Irina, a slight smile playing on his lips. "You're Irina Phoenix, right? I've heard of your family's powerful fire magic."
The words had barely left his mouth when everyone's eyes widened in surprise. Looking at the girl, they confirmed many people's suspicions.
'Am I doomed?' I could see that expression on the hunter's face, who had just been at odds with the Phoenix family heir.
He realized something was wrong, but by then things were already out of control.
He was a pathetic man. He was right, but his opponents not only demanded that he be right, but also that he have enough strength to back him up.
This is the kind of world we live in.
Right and wrong are defined by the strong.
At that moment, seeing the crowd's reaction, Irina's face broke into an unnatural smile. She seemed genuinely pleased, because she had finally received the reaction she deserved.
"Tsk, what a child," I muttered irritably. If the world were to fall into the hands of someone like that, the future would be truly tragic, though I didn't really care.
However, for some reason, seeing her smile like that made me feel a little irritated.
I turned around, ready to leave, but suddenly heard another voice from beside me.
What happened here?
This is a familiar voice from the game, coming from here.
Her short white hair fluttered in the wind, and the sword in her hand was stained with blood.
“I thought monsters were rampaging here, so I came to check it out, but it seems I don’t need to get involved?” she muttered to herself, a smile playing on her lips. That smile usually puts everyone at ease, but no one here felt that way at this moment.
Everyone knew who this girl was; she came from a prestigious family. Her white hair and blue eyes, combined with her indescribable beauty, were enough to make everyone recognize her.
Julia Middleton
Unlike Irina's Phoenix family, which focuses on magical research, the Middleton family is a hunter family that has produced the best hunters in each generation, thus earning them a wider reputation in the field of monster conquest.
"Oh! Irina? You're here too?" Julia approached Irina with her usual friendly smile, splattering the blood from her sword onto the road to clean it up.
Irina's frown seemed to ease slightly as she replied, "Yes, I was just wandering around because I was bored. There's nothing interesting in this city. But thanks to these guys, I'm having quite a bit of fun." As Irina said this with a smile, the hunters around her frowned.
After all, they were the ones who fought desperately against those monsters, and now this girl is here saying she's having a lot of fun.
This hurt their self-esteem, even though they didn't care.
Julia chuckled softly, her smile unchanged. "Yes, I can tell. It seems you handled it quite well."
Irina shrugged nonchalantly, her flames flickering as she gestured towards the defeated monster. "Hmm, pretty easy. These monsters are nothing, much weaker than what I usually face."
Julia turned her attention to the hunter in charge and nodded politely. "Sorry for causing such a commotion; my friend here just likes to create a dramatic scene."
The hunter's initially serious expression softened slightly under Julia's friendly tone: "It's nothing serious. We're still very grateful for your help, although it involved a bit of... extra screen time."
Irina rolled her eyes playfully: "Tch, if it weren't for me, you'd probably still be struggling." Her smile remained on her face, but I could see a slight displeasure in the hunter's eyes.
"She clearly has a talent for being annoying," I thought to myself.
Julia's laughter mingled with the whispers of those around her, and her presence seemed to further ease the tension; her reputation and charm were of great help.
But Irina didn't seem interested in the topic. She had clearly had her fill of fun.
She wanted to change the subject and looked around for Julia's partner.
“Huh? Where’s Victor?” she asked Julia. Since she and Victor were partners, she assumed they would be together. She had even looked for a while but couldn’t find him. “I called you, why didn’t you answer?” Irina glared at Julia, narrowing her eyes.
“You called? I didn’t hear it,” Julia replied, glancing at her watch. “Look, there’s no incoming call here.”
When Irina heard the news, she immediately understood the reason, and her anger was obvious.
'It must have been Victor. He probably knew Irina would call, so he installed a jammer around them.'
That's something that guy would do, because he has a strange obsession with Julia. But that's another story.
As the commotion subsided and I was preparing to leave, I heard some interesting news.
“Victor just received a phone call and left.”
"He's gone?" Irina seemed very surprised. Victor couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to hang out with Julia.
"Yes. He suddenly said he had something urgent to do and left with an angry expression."
When I heard Julia's words, a rather daring idea suddenly came to mind.
'if……'
This is just a hypothetical theory, and although I have no evidence, it makes everything seem obvious.
