Chapter 24 Submitting Documents
Chapter 24 Submitting Documents
It gradually got dark.
Zhao Yuan looked up and glanced at it.
I saw Lin Fangfang sitting at the doorway, holding Zhao Nana in her arms.
"Fangfang, are the rice and meat bones ready?"
Zhao Yuan asked as he packed his things.
"It's all done now. I saw you were working, so I didn't call you. Anyway, it's okay to eat a little later."
Lin Fangfang said.
"Has Zhaodi and Laidi not returned yet?"
Zhao Yuan asked.
"He's back, doing his homework in front of the pigpen."
Lin Fangfang looked towards the pigpen and said.
Zhao Yuan walked towards the pigpen and saw the two sisters sitting on the ground, doing their homework on a bench.
"Zhaodi, Laidi, come to the table and write this down. I'm going to cook."
After Zhao Yuan finished speaking, he turned to the kitchen.
Zhou Jiefang followed Zhao Yuan into the kitchen and started working on the fire.
"Jiefang, you've only read two books. Are you sure you can take this job?"
Zhao Yuan asked.
"Brother Zhao, I've taken a look, and my level is far inferior to yours. I'm afraid my translation won't pass the review."
Zhou Jiefang said.
"I'm going to Huacheng tomorrow morning. I'll bring a translator with me for the trip. You can take one back and try translating it. I'll review it for you after you finish."
Zhao Yuan said.
"I'll take this book back with me and try it out first. Thank you so much, Brother Zhao, for helping me like this."
As Zhou Jiefang spoke, he added a piece of firewood to the stove.
"Jiefang, it's a bit late today. It'll be dark if we go back. Why don't we stay the night and go back tomorrow?"
Zhao Yuan said to Zhou Jiefang while cooking.
"It's alright. I'm a grown man, walking at night won't be a problem. It'll only take me less than 20 minutes to get back. There's moonlight tonight, so I can see the road clearly."
Zhou Jiefang said.
Lin Fangfang was tidying up the table in the main room, preparing for dinner.
The cabbage was stir-fried quickly.
After finishing his meal, before it got dark, Zhou Jiefang hurriedly said goodbye to Zhaoyuan.
Zhao Yuan handed Zhou Jiefang a bag of rice.
"Brother Zhou, take this with you. We're running low on rice at home. I'll give you some more next time I get more rice."
Zhou Jiefang wanted to decline, but his family was really starving, so he took the rice bag, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and slowly disappeared into the darkness.
Zhaodi and Laidi then went to clear the dishes and were busy feeding the pigs and chickens.
Zhao Yuan first checked Zhao Di and Lai Di's homework. Both sisters did a good job today and there was nothing that needed to be corrected.
"Zhaodi and Laidi, you did your homework very well today. Dad will bring you gifts as a reward when he goes to Huacheng this time."
Zhao Yuan smiled and said to his two daughters.
"Thank you, Dad. Dad, can I choose for myself?"
Lai Di spoke first.
Zhao Zhaodi quietly washed the dishes.
What do you want?
Zhao Yuan asked.
"I want a pretty dress."
Lai Di's voice became very soft towards the end, clearly lacking confidence.
"Okay, I promise you, but before I get back, you need to memorize all the poems in your textbook and your sister's second-grade textbook, and be able to write them down from memory. I'll check when I get back."
Zhao Yuan said with a smile.
"Really, I will definitely do it."
Zhao Laidi jumped up happily, waving the rag she was using to wipe the table.
"Zhao Di, what do you want?"
Zhao Yuan asked his eldest daughter, who was washing dishes, that he always felt she was too mature and too sensible, sometimes so sensible that it broke his heart, always thinking of her parents and younger sister.
"Dad, I like anything you buy, as long as it's not too expensive."
Zhao Zhaodi said this while washing the dishes.
"Why don't you buy her a few books? She likes them."
Lin Fangfang said.
"Zhaodi, what kind of books do you like? Dad will buy them for you."
Zhao Yuan asked.
"The last Journey to the West was very good."
Zhao Zhaodi answered.
"Okay, I know."
Zhao Yuan took 100 yuan out of his bag and handed it to Lin Fangfang.
"Fangfang, here's 100 yuan for the basket delivery. Please keep it safe."
"Ah."
Lin Fangfang took the money, went into the room, and put it in a box under the bed.
Zhao Yuan helped feed the chickens and carried the chicken coop into his home.
Zhao Zhaodi and Zhao Laidi mixed the pig feed, and Zhao Yuan helped carry the feed to the pigpen and pour it into the pig trough.
"Wash your face and feet and go to bed early. You need to catch the early train tomorrow."
When Zhao Yuan returned after feeding the pigs, Lin Fangfang had already prepared water for washing his face and feet.
The two daughters had finished their work and gone back to their rooms.
"Okay, you should go to bed early too."
Zhao Yuan sat down next to Lin Fangfang and touched Zhao Nana's little face.
Each dream of the Duke of Zhou
Silent all night.
As soon as the rooster crowed three times, Lin Fangfang got up early to help her two daughters prepare their meals, pack Zhaoyuan's clothes for his trip, and remind him about the underwear with the special pockets sewn onto the bed.
After getting up, Zhao Yuan and his family happily ate breakfast. His two daughters fed the pigs and chickens before going to school.
Zhou Yuan checked his things, packed the translation materials and papers, said goodbye to Lin Fangfang, and after giving her some instructions, he set off to catch a bus in the countryside.
Upon arriving in the county town, Zhaoyuan went straight to the Xinhua Bookstore.
Since my train is in the afternoon, I have a whole morning to translate. I haven't finished translating the chemistry book from yesterday, but I can finish it by working overtime this morning.
"Comrade, hello, please help me contact Director Tu Chenglong and tell him that Zhao Yuan is looking for him, and that I have an appointment with him."
Zhao Yuan pushed open the door to Xinhua Bookstore, walked to the counter, and spoke to the salesperson.
There was only one female sales clerk reading books in the Xinhua Bookstore; there were no customers.
The saleswoman looked up at Zhao Yuan, then walked to the telephone, picked up the phone, and dialed.
"Hello, this is Xinhua Bookstore. Please ask for Director Tu Chenglong in the office to answer the phone."
The saleswoman said.
After a short while, a baritone voice came through the phone.
"Hello, this is Tu Chenglong. Who's looking for me?"
The phone wasn't soundproof, and Zhao Yuan could clearly hear the reply from the other end.
“There’s a man named Zhao Yuan here who said he was looking for you and that he had made an appointment with you.”
The saleswoman said.
"Okay, I'll be right there at the bookstore. You'll have to ask him to wait for me a moment."
Then I heard the beeping sound of the phone being hung up.
"Comrade, please have a seat for a moment. There's a table over there. Director Tu will be here shortly."
The saleswoman hung up the phone and said to Zhaoyuan.
"Okay, thank you."
Zhao Yuan carried his things to a table in the corner of the bookstore, sat down, and took out the materials he hadn't finished translating yesterday to continue translating.
After a while, Tu Chenglong pushed the door open and came in.
"Good morning, Brother Zhao."
"Good morning. I'm going to Huacheng today and I'll leave this afternoon. I've already finished translating one book of the documents, and this one is almost done. I'll finish translating it here and give it to you now. I'll bring the other two books over when I get back from Huacheng."
As he spoke, Zhao Yuan handed Tu Chenglong a bag. Then he lowered his head and continued translating.
Tu Chenglong took the documents and sat down opposite Zhao Yuan.
He took out the documents, glanced at them, and found the pages clean, the handwriting neat and easy to read, with page numbers clearly marked. He carefully read through a few pages, finding it very smooth and easy to understand. He was very satisfied with Zhaoyuan's work and was just waiting for it to be submitted to the provincial authorities for review, hoping it would pass.
"Brother Zhao, come to my office to translate. Your train leaves this afternoon. I'll treat you to a meal."
Tu Chenglong said.
"Director Tu, this is too much trouble for you. Won't it affect your work?"
Zhao Yuan asked.
"It's no trouble at all, it won't affect my work. You've been a great help to me, let's go."
Tu Chenglong stood up and helped Zhao Yuan pack his things.
"Then I shall respectfully accept your offer, Director Tu."
Zhao Yuan stood up, packed up all the documents, and followed Tu Chenglong outside.
"Sister Xu, this is Zhaoyuan, our translator. Please get to know each other. Zhaoyuan, this is Xu Xiulian. You can call her Sister Xu."
Tu Chenglong introduced the two of them.
"Sister Xu, I'll be troubling you often in the future."
Zhao Yuan greeted Xu Xiulian.
"It's not troublesome. People who can do translations are very knowledgeable and remarkable."
Xu Xiulian said with a smile.
"Sister Xu, you flatter me."
Zhao Yuan politely declined.
Tu Chenglong's office is in the courtyard behind Xinhua Bookstore. It's just around the corner after you come out of Xinhua Bookstore. There's a sign that reads "Jinyang County Xinhua Bookstore" hanging at the entrance. The security guard saw that it was Director Tu and let him in directly. Inside the courtyard, there's a two-story building. Director Tu's office is the second room on the left on the second floor.
Upon entering, Tu Chenglong arranged for Zhao Yuan to sit at the table.
"You can sit here and translate, I'll pour you a cup of tea."
Zhao Yuan sat down at the table and began to work diligently.
Tu Chenglong brewed a cup of fennel tea and placed it on the table.
"Brother Zhao, I'm in the office next door. Just call me if you need anything. I won't disturb your work."
"Okay, thank you, Director Tu."
Tu Chenglong put down his teacup, left the room, and closed the door.
Zhao Yuan continued to write diligently. Chemistry has many formulas and such, so although the book was quite thick, there wasn't much that actually needed to be translated. In addition, he had already translated more than half of it yesterday. After working for about half a morning, the entire chemistry book was translated.
Zhao Yuan took out all the documents and checked them all. After confirming that there were no errors, he folded them up neatly.
Zhao Yuan stood up, stretched, twisted his waist, and then walked towards the door.
He walked to the next room. The door was open, and inside, besides Tu Chenglong, there was a middle-aged man.
Zhao Yuan stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Tu Chenglong turned around, saw that it was Zhao Yuan, and quickly stood up and walked over.
"Brother Zhao, the translation is finished."
"Okay, Director Tu, please take a look."
Zhao Yuan answered.
Tu Chenglong and Zhao Yuan returned to their room.
Tu Chenglong sat down at the table, picked up the documents and started looking through them. The handwriting was still neat and clear, and the whole page was very pleasing to the eye.
"Brother Zhao, not bad, your handwriting is very beautiful and neat, truly rare."
Tu Chenglong exclaimed in admiration.
"I'll send these two documents and their translations to the provincial government today. We'll have the results when you return from Guangzhou. I hope to hear good news and celebrate with you then."
Tu Chenglong said with a smile.
"Thank you, Director Tu. I'll treat you when I get the translation fee."
Zhao Yuan said with a smile.
"Ok, Ok."
Tu Chenglong had a big smile on his face.
"Director Tu, it's still early. I'd like to hurry up and translate another book. Could you help me find a place to do it?"
Zhao Yuan said that he just wants to seize every minute to finish this job, as the book is quite thick.
"You can continue translating in my office. I'll go next door and call you when it's time to eat."
Tu Chenglong stood up and walked out.
"Okay, thank you, Director Tu."
With that, Zhao Yuan sat down at the table and began to work diligently.
