Chapter 163 Taking the Baby to a Feast
Chapter 163 Taking the Baby to a Feast
The baby needed to be fed every few hours, and she would be woken up in the middle of the night by the baby's crying, forcing her to get up and feed her child. Fortunately, after a month of adjustment, Shuyun got used to feeding her child while sleeping, without any disruption.
That night, Shu Yun was sleeping soundly when a familiar baby's cry rang out. Shu Yun subconsciously burrowed deeper into the blankets, trying to block out the disturbing noise. She nudged Gu Jun beside her and mumbled, "Go feed the baby."
Gu Jun yawned, picked up the crying child and held him to Shu Yun's chest. He skillfully unbuttoned his shirt, and the child instinctively snuggled up and eagerly began to suckle, looking like a starving ghost reincarnated after eight hundred years. Shu Yun patted the child's back in a half-asleep state. Just as she was about to fall asleep, another deafening cry rang out. Shu Yun rubbed her temples, reluctantly opened her eyes, and asked, "What's wrong now? Didn't you just have milk?"
Gu Jun carried the child around the bedroom, trying to soothe him, saying, "I'll comfort him, you go to sleep first."
Shu Yun couldn't sleep, so she got up and said, "Come here, let me hug you."
However, even when the baby was in his mother's arms, he still wouldn't cooperate, crying until his little face was red and his voice was hoarse, but he still wouldn't stop crying. Now the two new parents panicked, "What, what's wrong? The diaper is dry and there's no pee?"
There was a knock on the door. Wang Xiuwen asked, "What's wrong? Why is the child crying?"
Gu Jun quickly opened the door and let Wang Xiuwen in. Wang Xiuwen glanced at the child and said, "Here, give it to me. Is the baby uncomfortable because you didn't burp him?"
As Wang Xiuwen spoke, she picked up the baby, rested the baby's little head on her shoulder, supported the baby's little bottom with one hand, and gently patted the baby's back from top to bottom. After repeating this several times, the baby's crying finally subsided, and he finally fell asleep with tear stains on his face.
It has to be said that the couple breathed a sigh of relief when the baby stopped crying. Wang Xiuwen said softly, "We need to burp the baby after feeding him milk. Also, babies are prone to gas at two months old. We should do some gas-relieving exercises for him occasionally. He was crying and fussing because he was not feeling well."
Gu Jun nodded and reached out to take the child, but Wang Xiuwen refused, saying, "Look at your dark circles, you two. You just fed the baby, and he won't wake up for a while. Let the baby sleep with me tonight so you can get a good night's sleep."
Wang Xiuwen quietly left with the child, and Shu Yun lay back down on the bed. She felt the silent night was particularly peaceful, and soon fell asleep with her face pressed against Gu Jun's arm.
Shu Yun and Wang Xiuwen stayed home all day taking care of their child, so they were slow to learn about outside news. The news that Gu Jun's new regimental commander had arrived at the military camp was only told to her by Gu Jun himself that evening.
"Our regimental commander is treating us to dinner tomorrow night, let's go together."
Shu Yun asked in surprise, "We've already arrived?"
Gu Jun nodded. "I've been here for a while now. Tomorrow is a dinner party."
Shu Yun was in a daze. Taking care of the child was annoying, but time flew by.
The next day, Shu Yun, carrying a box of egg tarts, followed Gu Jun to the home of the newly arrived Commander Yin. Originally, Wang Xiuwen was also asked to come along, but she didn't want to. The child had been sleeping with her every night for the past few days, and she was exhausted. Since she had some free time, she left the child with the couple and ate something before going back to her room to catch up on some sleep.
Before leaving, Wang Xiuwen reminded him, "If there are any bones or leftovers, bring some back for Axi to eat."
Even at this moment, the old lady didn't forget her beloved grandson dog. Shu Yun glanced at Ah happy, who was so fat he could barely fit into his doghouse, and nodded reluctantly, "Okay." Dream on.
Shu Yun, carrying the child, followed Gu Jun to the regimental commander's house. Regimental Commander Yin was a middle-aged man in his forties with a square face and a serious demeanor. He was a very stern-looking person. When he saw the young couple coming over, he nodded to them, and when he looked at the child in Shu Yun's arms, a touch of tenderness finally appeared in his eyes.
Gu Jun called out, "Commander."
At this moment, the regimental commander's wife, Zou Feng, also came out. She was a very capable woman with a crisp voice and a bright smile. Even before she spoke, she already had a smile on her face. She affectionately pulled Shu Yun and said, "Oh, this must be Xiao Gu's wife, Shu Yun. She is indeed as beautiful as you say. This must be the baby. So cute."
A child's energy is always a mystery. They are restless at night and still full of energy during the day. The baby is nestled in his mother's arms, looking around with his bright eyes. Zou Feng's heart melts at the sight of him. She quickly calls for someone to come inside, "It's windy outside, don't let the child get cold. Come on, it's warm inside."
Shu Yun nodded to Gu Jun and followed him into the house. She took out the egg tarts she had brought and said, "Sister-in-law, these are homemade. I brought them for you to try."
It wouldn't be right to come to a military wife's house for dinner without bringing a gift, but bringing something too expensive would be excessive. If someone with ulterior motives saw it, they might think that Gu Jun was trying to curry favor with the regimental commander. Bringing some homemade egg tarts would be thoughtful and not seem stingy. It just so happens that she brought the same thing when she went to the division commander's house, so it wouldn't seem like she was showing favoritism.
Zou Feng exclaimed in delight, "This smells so good! Shu Yun, your skills are really good. I've never seen anything like this in any other pastry shop."
Shu Yun smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, try one and see. If you like it, I'll bring you more next time."
Zou Feng: "This is too much trouble. I can tell at a glance that this thing will take a lot of effort." As she spoke, Zou Feng picked one up and tasted it. "It's delicious. The filling must have milk in it. It smells so good."
Shu Yun: "As long as my sister-in-law is happy."
Shu Yun arrived early and, seeing everyone helping in the kitchen, she joined in for a while.
The banquet officially began soon afterward. There weren't many people present this time, so they were divided into two tables: one for women and one for men. They were all from the same group, and Shu Yun knew many of them. Of course, the division commander and his wife were also there.
Li Jianqing was also there. As soon as she saw Shu Yun, she invited Shu Yun to sit next to her. Shu Yun paused for a moment. The reason was simple: the division commander's wife, Wang Chunmei, was sitting on the other side of the seat.
Wang Chunmei also saw Shu Yun, nodded to her, and Shu Yun smiled back, then sat down next to her with the child in her arms.
Shu Yun said to Shu Yun, "Long time no see, sister-in-law."
Li Jianqing glanced at the child blowing bubbles in Shu Yun's arms: "How is the child? Is he easy to take care of?"
Shu Yun shook her head helplessly, "Look at the dark circles under my eyes, the little guy is so naughty."
Li Jianqing sighed, "My two little devils are hard to handle. I feel like I've lost a lot of hair lately, all because of those two little rascals. I really regret having the brain fart to bring them here."
