Chapter 2: The Appearance of the Fur Ball

Chapter 2: The Appearance of the Fur Ball

Based on the sound, Lezhi deduced that the monster seemed to be approaching the direction where he was hiding.

Unable to sit idly by and wait for death, Lezhi immediately got up, chose another hiding place, and moved quickly again.

The moment he hid, the monster followed the scent and found his hiding place.

Smelling the lingering odor, the monster's tentacles rustled as they touched, and it did not give up searching for Lezhi's whereabouts.

Knowing that he had not completely gotten rid of the monster, Lezhi raised all his senses to their highest level. His ears picked up the monster's movements, while his eyes searched for its next hiding place.

There was no other way; without the strength to fight head-on, his only chance of winning was to hide and wage guerrilla warfare.

So, when the monster followed the trail back, Lezhi was in the next hiding place letting out a sigh of relief at escaping from the jaws of death.

Perhaps the repeated missed attacks angered the monster, for it emitted a rhythmic "da da da" sound in the air.

The piercing sound assaulted her eardrums, and Lezhi couldn't help but think to herself, 'Ugh, is it because they haven't caught me that they're cursing and swearing?'

Trying to find some humor in her misery, Lezhi secretly imagined a cricket monster in her mind, but almost burst out laughing at her own thoughts. Quickly raising her hand to cover her mouth, Lezhi composed herself, feeling somewhat annoyed. Luckily, she acted fast, otherwise she would have laughed herself into oblivion.

Once again reminding himself to be cautious, Lezhi looked up and continued searching for his next hiding place.

On the other side, the monster's voice never stopped, a rhythmic, melodious "da da da" sound, as if it had been played countless times, and the monster's movements were exceptionally skillful.

Lezhi, who had moved to the next hiding place, noticed that the monster was still making that strange noise and sensed that something was wrong.

He carefully recalled the monster's appearance in his mind, trying to deduce its race from its physical features. The images he had seen before flashed through his mind one by one, and he compared them with the remaining memories in his mind.

Long tentacles, inorganic eyes, and spiky limbs—similar species gradually surfaced in Lezhi's mind. The sudden guess startled him, as if he had been struck by lightning.

"My God..." Unable to help but mutter to himself, Lezhi finally realized that the monster's appearance was very similar to a type of creature in his memory.

Those are insects.

And these aren't ordinary insects, but insects magnified countless times. Now, looking at the unfamiliar plants around him, Lezhi is like a tiny person who has wandered into a land of giants, so out of place.

Swallowing the bitter taste in his mouth, Lezhi was now even more terrified by the meaning behind the large insect's voice. After all, many insects are social creatures; they can summon their companions.

If I can't even handle this one Lezhi, imagine if a whole bunch came...

Lezhi forced a bitter smile, hoping his guess was wrong. Unfortunately, a sudden sound from the surroundings shattered his hopes.

The sound coming from the big bug's mouth was indeed a call to its companions, who, having received the message, had already rushed over from all directions.

They also responded to their nearby companions with a "da da da" sound.

For a moment, Lezhi couldn't even tell which direction the sounds were coming from; he just felt that the sounds were all around him.

Cold sweat broke out uncontrollably on his forehead. Lezhi subconsciously turned his head to observe his surroundings. The increasingly dense pattering sound kept coming into his ears. In the vast jungle, this place seemed to have become a new hunting ground for the giant insects, and their target was him, the outsider who had suddenly intruded.

Realizing his current situation, Lezhi felt the hairs on his body stand on end, and all his nerves tensed up instantly.

A wave of sorrow washed over him, yet he forced himself to pull himself together. Gritting his teeth, Yuezhi resolved in his heart that he would not give up until the very last moment!

Lezhi looked up and around, trying to find a more suitable hiding place. The big bugs were now gathering here, and he couldn't escape. He could only try to hide.

His gaze swept across the bushes of varying heights around him, and Lezhi locked onto the tall branches beside him. Climbing a tree was his last resort, because once he was up there, he would have no way out.

With climbing as an option, Lezhi chose a nearby bush and crouched down inside. The plants rustled as Lezhi moved, but he didn't care to be quiet. He crawled forward on all fours until he felt he was deep in the bushes and there was a way to climb back up nearby, then he stopped.

Not long after he stopped, the insect army had also assembled. The previous cacophony of clicking sounds had ceased, and the insects touched each other's antennae to exchange information, seemingly communicating something. The insects then began searching the surrounding area in unison.

Hiding in the bushes, holding his breath, Yuezhi was peering through the gaps in the plants to observe the surroundings, while praying that he would escape this ordeal.

Perhaps he was too focused on observing the insects' movements, so Lezhi didn't notice that while he was silently praying, the plants seemed to sense the energy emanating from his body. They peeked out to observe Lezhi, and then joyfully responded to his call, rushing towards him. Thus, without Lezhi's awareness, the plants worked together to cover him with a layer of emerald green, completely concealing Lezhi's aura beneath them without a trace.

Despite the plants' strong support, there were simply too many insects at the gathering. Despite the insects' orderly, carpet-like search, unfortunately, one still managed to reach the vicinity of Lezhi's hiding place.

Meanwhile, in the bushes, Lezhi, perfectly concealed by the plants, saw the insect just an arm's length away. His heart leaped into his throat, his muscles tensed, and he was ready to pounce and run away at any moment.

Just as the insects reached the edge of the bushes where Lezhi was hiding, and Lezhi was ready to pounce, a sudden commotion arose from the swarm of insects. Accompanied by a clear and sharp "Hee~", the insects that were about to touch Lezhi visibly stiffened, and then left at a speed several times faster than when they came.

The sudden turn of events caught Lezhi off guard, and it wasn't until she saw that the insect had vanished that she realized what had happened.

Gently exhaling the tightness in his chest, Lezhi slowly moved his limbs. He had just heard that sound, which sounded like a bird's chirp, and seeing the insect's reaction, Lezhi guessed that perhaps he had escaped danger by sheer coincidence.

Only then did Lezhi dare to move her body slightly; maintaining one position for so long was truly agonizing. As she moved, Lezhi realized that plants had completely covered her body.

"Oh my god... what?! You scared me!"

The insect crisis was not over yet, and Lezhi subconsciously thought that he had encountered some new species of reptile. He jumped up from the spot with a start, his legs jumping around and his hands slapping all over his body to shake off these things that shouldn't be there.

He was like an ant on a hot pan, no longer caring about the insects lurking outside, only wanting to get rid of the immediate danger as soon as possible.

After patting his body for a while, Lezhi gradually calmed down and realized that what was attached to him were just some plants, and these plants had not caused him any harm.

A question flashed through my mind, but I didn't have time to think about it deeply. I simply assumed it was a characteristic of plants in this world.

There was something more important to do now: the bugs! Lezhi turned warily, glancing around cautiously. She regretted making such a commotion earlier.

He finally waited for the bug to leave, but if he called it back, that would be exciting, and he could launch another deadly sprint.

This was Lezhi's first time in such a primitive jungle, so his alertness was rather clumsy and inadequate.

So he was completely unaware that high up, perched quietly on a high branch, was a creature that had been watching him for a long time.

The unknown creature seemed puzzled when it saw Lezhi jumping around energetically and then suddenly becoming quiet. It tilted its head and let out a soft "chirp," which immediately attracted Lezhi's attention.
