Chapter 53 Pursuit
Chapter 53 Pursuit
On a sunny afternoon, bursts of laughter echoed through the valley.
Yun Dan was leading a group of children from Sujia Village in practicing martial arts. The children were all very excited and imitated her movements.
However, at that moment, Yun Dan's shout broke the silence: "Who!"
Yun Dan's heart tightened, and she quickly used her lightness skill, flying towards the source of the sound like a nimble swallow.
When she floated to the spot where the two men had just been, she saw two blurry figures flash by on the back mountain and drift away into the distance.
The figure appeared unusually eerie, sending chills down one's spine.
Yun Dan was secretly on guard. She knew that these two people were no good and that she had to find out their identities and purposes as soon as possible.
Without hesitation, she turned back into the valley and spoke urgently and quickly to the group of children in front of her.
"You all go back to the village and don't wander around. I'm going to chase after them. Don't follow me. I'll be safe."
Before she finished speaking, she used her lightness skill to disappear from everyone's sight again, chasing after the direction in which the two figures had disappeared.
Xiaoyue was stunned, watching Yundan's departing figure, at a loss for what to do.
"What should we do?" she asked the older boys around her.
“We can’t let her go alone!” one of the boys, named Afu, said urgently.
They were the bravest kids in the village, always wanting to protect everyone.
"I think we should follow them!"
"But... what if we encounter danger? Xiaoya just said we should go back to the village," Xiaoyue said with some worry.
Shanzi: "Xiaoya's martial arts are so high, I'm afraid we can't catch up with them. Going there would probably be a burden to her, and she would have to divide her attention to protect us."
"That's right, that's right, let's hurry back to the village! Let's tell the adults and let them make a decision."
The other children also agreed, and although they were young, they all understood the importance of safety.
After a debate between Xiaoyue and Afu, Shanzi and the others finally decided to lead everyone back to the village.
Along the way, Shanzi kept encouraging everyone: "Don't be afraid, Xiaoya will definitely get home safely."
Despite his inner turmoil, he tried to remain calm, hoping to give others more confidence.
Everyone used their light-footed skills to run towards the village.
As we emerged from the valley, the sun was already setting, casting a golden glow across the sky.
Xiaoyue looked up at the sky, at that beautiful yet incredibly small scene.
"Once we get back to the village, we'll tell the adults and see what the elders say."
Shanzi spoke to the group of children again.
Finally, they arrived at the village. Xiaoyue ran in, panting, and shouted:
"Quick, come quick! There are bad guys in the valley, and Xiaoya has gone after them."
Upon hearing this, the villagers immediately gathered around, their faces filled with panic.
"What? What bad guys are in the valley?" the village headman frowned. "Quickly, organize a few people to go and check it out!"
Just then, Yang Hualing arrived and asked what had happened.
Everyone started talking at once, chattering and worrying about Yun Dan's safety.
The noise made Yang Hualing a little angry.
"Stop, all of you shut up. Shanzi, what happened? Tell me slowly."
"Sister Yang, this is what happened. After lunch, we..."
Shanzi told Yang Hualing what had happened, and after listening, Yang Hualing sensed that things were not simple.
"Why would martial arts practitioners come to such a remote village as Su Family Village, especially to the very edge of the mountains behind it?"
"Little Ya is right. You are not allowed to go into the valley anymore. Also, you are not allowed to run around anymore. With your martial arts level, you are not even good enough to be killed by someone with one strike."
Hearing Yang Hualing say this, everyone became even more worried about Yun Dan's safety.
"Little girl, my little girl, you must come back safely," Lin Su said.
"Auntie, don't worry. With Xiaoya's current martial arts skills, unless a master of the Middle Yuan Realm comes, no one else can hurt her," Yang Hualing comforted Lin Sushi.
"Little girl, I hope you can come back when things get tough, and we can all think of a solution together," Yang Hualing murmured to herself.
"Dear elders, please rest assured, everyone go back to your homes. Xiaoya will be safe."
"Also, you eighteen little brats who know martial arts, you need to keep an eye out for any suspicious people or unusual activity in the village at all times," Yang Hualing comforted and reminded the group.
When Xiaoya still hadn't returned by evening, everyone became even more worried. The entire village gathered in the ancestral hall, making the quiet night seem even more lively.
They discussed it for almost an hour, and Yang Hualing also spent an hour trying to persuade them, but in the end, she couldn't persuade them anymore.
"Even if you go, you won't know where to look. When Xiaoya comes back and can't find anyone, won't she have to come looking for you again?"
I already said this afternoon that she's highly skilled in martial arts. If you can't even beat her, are you still going to throw your lives away?
"I'll go look for her tomorrow, so you can just wait patiently for her to come back."
"Sister Yang, I'm still worried about Xiaoya," Xiaoyue said.
To Xiaoyue's surprise, their parting was so hasty that they wouldn't see each other again for many, many years.
When Yun Dan appeared before her in a domineering manner, she felt as if she were dreaming, and she released all the grievances and pressure she had accumulated over the years.
At that moment, Yun Dan felt incredibly heartbroken seeing Xiao Yue crying so desperately.
Let's get back to the main topic and turn our attention to Yun Dan.
-
Over here, Yun Dan didn't know how long she had been chasing, but she finally caught up with the two people in a forest.
She looked closely and saw that the two people were dressed in black, their faces covered by black cloth, with only a pair of cold eyes showing.
Yun Dan, holding a long sword, pointed it at the other party and asked sharply, "Who are you? Why are you spying on our cultivation?"
One of them sneered and said, "Hmph, dead people don't need to know so much."
Yun Dan was startled, but she felt no fear. Instead, she became even more determined to kill the other party.
She said, "Hmph... You two think you can take my life? You're dreaming."
Having said that, Yun Dan launched the first attack, her sword piercing towards her opponent like a whirlwind.
The assassins, not to be outdone, drew their weapons and engaged in a fierce battle with Yun Dan.
Judging from their moves, every move was fast and aimed at Yun Dan's most vital parts.
In an instant, sword energy crisscrossed the woods, and blades flashed.
With her superb swordsmanship and agile movements, Yun Dan slowly gained the upper hand.
Seeing that things were not going well, the assassins exchanged glances and suddenly launched a hidden weapon at Yun Dan.
Yun Dan was startled by the sudden appearance of the hidden weapon. She quickly dodged to the side and took the opportunity to stab one of the assassins in the arm with her sword.
The assassin managed to dodge to the side, but his arm was still pierced by Yun Dan's swordsmanship.
The other assassin was shocked to see this. He hadn't expected the little girl to be so skilled in martial arts and knew he was no match for Yun Dan.
They also launched several hidden weapons at Yun Dan, who could only deflect them first. Then he and another person turned and ran away.
Yun Dan was not about to let him escape so easily, so she used her lightness skill to quickly give chase.
After a chase, Yun Dan finally cornered one of the assassins.
The three of them fought and ran. They saw three people in the mountains, two big ones running in front and a smaller one chasing behind.
Sometimes, you'll see the people in front of you throw out a few hidden weapons.
One is the main attacker and the other is the support; the two work together very well, and it feels like they are each other's only partner.
They chased each other all night, sometimes running west, sometimes turning north.
If Yun Dan knew the geographical location, she would know that the two assassins ran towards the towering cliff of Gu Xuan.
This was the first time Yun Dan had encountered such a situation. Apart from knowing in her heart that she couldn't let the two of them get away, she had no other thoughts.
And so, with two fleeing and one pursuing, the night passed.
All she knew was that she bore the heavy responsibility of protecting the village and the children, and she had to deal with these two people, otherwise there would likely be more trouble later on.
