Chapter 1113 - 453: Demon Hunting Fortress
Chapter 1113 - 453: Demon Hunting Fortress
Demon Hunting Fortress. It looked like a huge battle had just taken place here, with all kinds of Demons’ corpses left scattered everywhere.
The first wall in particular had almost been completely overrun by Demons, their bodies lying thick across it; even the lower sections of the wall were full of cracks and dents.
But clearly, the wall was even thicker than Alka had imagined.
And it wasn’t his imagination—he could see the wall slowly repairing itself.
Several huge Demons had collapsed by the wall, obviously dying without ever managing to smash it open.
Some Mercenaries and soldiers started collecting the Demon corpses on the wall.
They stripped certain materials from the Demon bodies and tossed the remaining corpses off the wall.
He could also see many humans and soldiers using various baskets and their own methods to descend the wall, harvesting Demon corpses and those weapons all across the battlefield.
Of course, doing this carried a certain amount of risk, but they had only just driven the Demons back, so this was the moment of least danger.
The Demons’ weapons were all forged from various ores of the Abyss where their wielders came from, and were likewise rare spoils of war.
Besides that, all kinds of troops were busy all over the wall, carrying all sorts of wounded on stretchers toward the Fortress’s infirmary.
On top of that, even more people were gathering up their comrades’ bodies.
If a corpse’s appearance was still recognizable, it was better; if the face could no longer be recognized, they could only tear off the dog tag with his name from his neck or various parts of the body.
Alka was leaning against the second wall like this, sitting and recovering his strength.
His Magic Power had been almost completely drained.
Why had it ended up like this? Entirely because Akka had only just come through the wall with the others and arrived at the Demon Hunting Fortress.
They had happened to join the siege battle the moment they arrived; facing that situation, they couldn’t possibly just stand by.
Naturally, they had started attacking the Demons below, and finally witnessed just how fierce and grinding the fighting here really was.
He had used all kinds of Elemental Cards to attack, and that had practically squeezed Alka’s Magic Power dry.
Some of the Demons had surged up like a tide; Third Stage and Fourth Stage ones swarmed in like ants without end.
Among them there was no shortage of Fifth Stage Demons, and over the course of the whole siege, Alka had seen at least a hundred people with golden light-points resisting the stronger Demons.
He had even seen several who possessed orange Treasures among them.
Compared to the first time he came to the Demon Hunting Fortress and experienced a siege, the scene now was much more extreme.
After all, that time had only been a sudden assault launched by the Mouth of Devouring, mainly to give Alka a harsh warning.
And to issue a declaration of his hunt.
Alka sat there like this, people coming and going in front of him; the soldiers still able to move were all busy.
Jason walked a few steps, dragging his body over to sit down beside Alka.
Jason’s whole body was clearly stained with blood.
"What did you do to end up like that?" Alka couldn’t help asking when he saw Jason’s state.
At this moment Jason still had crystal carapace remnants on various parts of his body, although every plate of that carapace was damaged.
"What else? A Demon got in close. My arms are so shot I can barely swing anymore." Jason even let out a couple of chuckles as he said it.
Hearing that, Alka shook his head helplessly.
Using the wall for support, he slowly stood up, then turned his head to look around the Fortress.
He quickly spotted the others in different places—Matilda was controlling her water bottle and needles, moving all over the battlefield, treating the critically wounded.
He could see countless small figures also moving through the battlefield, helping the medics with their treatments.
Simon seemed to have conserved his stamina quite well; he was working with some members of the Holy Machine Church to repair various defensive devices that hadn’t been completely destroyed.
The battle had ended only a short while ago, but there were so many Demons that it wouldn’t be long before they attacked again.
By then it would be too late to start repairing.
Even though they had just repelled the Demons, the whole Fortress was still a scene of frantic activity; things were only slightly more relaxed than during the earlier tension.
"So how do these people even manage to hold out?" Jason sighed.
They had joined the world in the middle of the Demons’ assault; by the time they arrived, plenty of Demons had already stormed the first wall.
But that first wall was the only place those Demons had managed to climb.
If the fighting was always this intense, it was clearly a massive strain on these soldiers’ nerves.
"Maybe they’re used to it? Who knows." Akka didn’t have much strength left and couldn’t be bothered to think; he just leaned against the wall and rested.
"Alka? I heard you were ambushed on the way here?" Salaro walked over, Armor dented and covered in blood, asking as he approached.
"How did you know?" Alka asked in some surprise.
"The patrols in the rear found out. The Grand Judge said it was probably the Mouth of Devouring sending something to the rear specifically after you.
Pretty impressive, taking down that many."
Alka waved his hand at that.
Salaro looked at Jason beside Alka and reached out to shake his hand.
"I’m Centurion Salaro."
"Jason."
"I just saw you on the battlefield. You fought well." Salaro looked at Jason with admiration.
