Chapter 947 Rushing Towards Zhanghai
Chapter 947 Rushing Towards Zhanghai
The Mosquito Woman shrieked and charged at Zhang Hai with all her might. She was incredibly fast, leaving a trail of afterimages in the air, her sharp proboscis aimed straight for Zhang Hai's throat.
This was her last struggle.
Susanoo raised its other hand and gently clenched it.
The Mosquito Girl was held in the giant's hand.
She struggled desperately, her mouthparts piercing the giant's fingers, but the blue armor was incredibly hard, leaving not even a scratch.
"Let me go!" she screamed. "Do you know how powerful the House of Evolution is? Do you know how terrifying Dr. Genus is? If you dare kill me, the doctor will definitely turn you into a test subject!"
Zhang Hai looked at her.
His eyes remained calm, but there was a hint of weariness in them.
“I don’t know, and I don’t want to know, about what you’re saying,” he said.
The giant's hand slowly tightened.
The Mosquito Girl let out a final scream, and then with a bang, she turned into a cloud of blood mist.
Blood mist drifted and settled on the ruins.
Zhang Hai retracted Susanoo and turned around.
Saitama remained standing there, hands in his pajama pockets, his face expressionless. It was as if everything that had just happened was nothing more than someone setting off a firecracker.
Genos stood next to him, his mouth agape, wide enough to fit a fist.
His mechanical eyes were flashing frantically, trying to analyze the combat data from just now. But the analysis only yielded one result: it was impossible to analyze.
“You…” Genos finally found his voice, “Who are you?”
Zhang Hai thought for a moment and said, "The resident of 302."
Genos almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
"I'm not asking for your address! I'm asking for your identity! Your origins! Your power!" His voice trembled with excitement. "That power... that overwhelming power... even among S-class heroes, no one can compare! Who exactly are you?"
Zhang Hai looked at him and remained silent for two seconds.
Then he said, "A passing traveler."
Genos is going crazy.
He looked to Saitama for help.
Saitama yawned and rubbed his eyes: "What's for breakfast?"
Genos: "…………"
Zhang Hai thought for a moment and said, "There are three eggs, a bunch of scallions, and half a bag of noodles in the refrigerator."
“Let’s have noodles then.” Saitama turned and walked back. “Genos, go put out the fire over there, and see if there’s any usable furniture left. Our house is gone, we’ll have to rebuild it.”
Genos opened his mouth as if to say something, but looking at Saitama's back, he ultimately kept it closed.
He turned around and began to put out the fire.
Zhang Hai stood there, looking at the ruins in the distance.
The gorilla ran away.
He didn't chase after them.
It's not that I couldn't catch it, but that I deliberately let it go.
Because he also wanted to know where that so-called House of Evolution was.
Three days later, Room 301 was rebuilt.
The so-called reconstruction was really just clearing out the ruins and building a makeshift shed with salvaged planks and sheet metal. Saitama, used to living in ruins, had no particular requirements for his living conditions. Genos, though a cyborg, worked hard alongside his master without complaint.
After helping them move the last plank, Zhang Hai sat down outside the shed.
The early autumn sun was warm, its rays making me feel lazy. Occasionally, the roars of strange creatures could be heard in the distance, but they quickly disappeared; I wondered if they were dealt with by some hero or simply starved to death.
Genos came out of the shed and sat down next to Zhang Hai.
He gazed into the distance and remained silent for a long time.
"You deliberately let the gorilla go that day," he finally said.
Zhang Hai did not deny it.
"why?"
"Because it will lead the way."
Genos turned to look at Zhang Hai: "Are you going to the House of Evolution?"
"Maybe."
"why?"
Zhang Hai thought for a moment and said, "Because they disturbed my sleep."
Genos was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.
This was the first time he had smiled in front of Zhang Hai.
“You know what,” he said, “the way you talk is a lot like your teacher.”
"is it?"
"Hmm. They've done something truly remarkable, yet they always act like it's nothing special." Genos's smile slowly faded, replaced by a complex expression. "The teacher is like that, and so are you. Sometimes I really don't understand what you strong people are thinking."
Zhang Hai looked at the distant sky without saying a word.
“I became stronger for revenge,” Genos continued. “When I was fifteen, my hometown was destroyed by a mad cyborg. My parents, my neighbors, everyone I knew died in that disaster. Only I survived and was transformed into a robot by Dr. Kusno.”
His hands clenched into fists, and the mechanical joints made a slight clicking sound.
“From then on, my only goal in life was to become stronger, find that cyborg, and kill him with my own hands.” His voice was low. “So I joined the Hero Association and became an S-class hero. I thought that would bring me one step closer to revenge.”
Zhang Hai listened without interrupting.
“But then I met my teacher.” Genos’s expression softened. “He told me that becoming stronger wasn’t for revenge, but for protection. He said that a true strong person isn’t defined by how many people they can kill, but by how many they can protect.”
He turned his head and looked at Zhang Hai.
Are you like that too?
Zhang Hai remained silent for a long time.
Then he said, "I used to have a village."
Genos waited for him to continue.
But Zhang Hai did not continue speaking.
He was just looking into the distance, with something in his eyes that Genos couldn't understand.
That wasn't the look of an ordinary person. It was the look of someone who had experienced too much life and death, and witnessed too many partings.
“That village,” Zhang Hai finally spoke, “is gone.”
Genos was stunned.
"I became stronger not for revenge, nor for protection." Zhang Hai stood up and dusted off his pants. "It's just a habit."
He walked toward his house.
As he reached the door, he stopped, turned back, and said, "That gorilla will probably come back again. Next time, follow it."
As Genos watched his retreating figure, he suddenly realized that this person was far more complex than he had imagined.
A week later, the armored gorilla returned that night, just as expected.
This time it learned its lesson and didn't launch a blatant frontal attack. Instead, it led an entire elite force of the House of Evolution and quietly slipped into the no-man's land.
But it didn't know that every step it took was within Zhang Hai's perception.
Since the day he released it, Zhang Hai left a trace of chakra on it. This mark is colorless and invisible, and cannot be detected by any technological means, but no matter where it goes, Zhang Hai can sense its location.
So when the gorilla, leading more than thirty strange people, had just stepped into the border of the no-man's-land, Zhang Hai was already standing on their inevitable path.
Under the moonlight, he was wearing that gray short-sleeved shirt, his hands in his pockets, like someone who happened to be passing by.
