Chapter 15 The Transformation of the Fur Ball
Chapter 15 The Transformation of the Fur Ball
The attention of the crowd did not affect Maoqiu's performance. Its transformation speed was very fast. Before Lezhi could even worry about it, Maoqiu had already completed its transformation.
Standing before Lezhi was a large, pure white bird. Its belly was still round and plump, but it had become more slender and had grown a neck. Its originally beady eyes now had a delicate pink eyeliner, just like its pointed beak, making the bird's eyes appear even more lively and beautiful.
Lezhi swallowed hard, closing her mouth which had been agape in surprise, and walked closer. At this moment, the positions of Maoqiu and Lezhi were completely reversed; just as Maoqiu had nestled in Lezhi's arms before, Lezhi could now nestle in Maoqiu's arms in the same way.
"嗻~"
As Lezhi approached, Maoqiu chirped softly, a familiar sound that evoked Lezhi's memories. This sound seemed to be the same one that had scared away the insects chasing him before they first met Maoqiu.
Thinking of this, Lezhi smiled and her eyes crinkled. "So it really was you who saved me before!"
"嗻~"
As always, every word received a response. Lezhi smiled knowingly, opened her arms, and plunged into the furry front of the ball, her cheeks constantly turning and rubbing against it.
"Furry, you kept this from me for so long! Why didn't you tell me you could transform? You look so cool like this!"
"Yes, sir!"
Realizing that Lezhi was praising him at the end, Maoqiu was overjoyed, and his response was much more melodious. He looked defiantly at Lechu, who was standing next to him with a worried expression.
Seeing the giant bird's display of power, Le Chu was both amused and exasperated. Meanwhile, the Lingyu tribe members watching were whispering amongst themselves about the furry creature's transformation. One of the tall tribesmen approached Le Chu and asked in a low voice, "Chieftain, what do you think of this…?"
"It's alright, this bird hasn't harmed the chicks, we don't need to interfere too much."
"But what if it harms the cubs?"
The visitor looked worried, his eyes fixed on the affectionate chicks and adult birds, fearing that something might happen and he wouldn't be able to stop it in time.
“We’re still here, aren’t we? Don’t forget, for the days before we found the chicks, this bird was the one taking care of them. Do the chicks look like something’s wrong with them?”
Seeing Lezhi happily circling around the fur ball, the visitor couldn't bring himself to say anything unpleasant and could only rub his nose in defeat.
After calming the tribespeople down, Lechu walked toward Lezhi, who was squatting there carefully studying the pompom's tail feathers.
"Lezhi, what are you looking at?"
"Ah, Lechu, no, I was just curious about the shape of Maoqiu's tail feathers. They're so pretty."
Following Lezhi's arm, Lechu looked at the fur ball's tail feathers trailing behind it like ribbons woven from celestial clouds, and nodded in agreement, "Yes, it's very beautiful. It seems to be a male."
"Huh?" Not quite understanding the meaning behind Yue Chu's words, Yue Zhi asked in surprise.
“Oh right, Lezhi is still a cub and doesn’t know these common facts yet. Generally, the birds and beasts with beautiful feathers are males. They pay extra attention to their feathers in order to attract mates.” Lechu patiently explained to Lezhi, a smile flashing in her eyes. “But that’s not necessarily true. There are some species where the males and females look almost identical, with no difference. I’m just guessing.”
Upon receiving the answer, Lezhi nodded in sudden realization, instantly understanding that this was the same in his previous world. In nature, it seemed that males seeking mates were indeed more concerned with their appearance, and thus generally evolved to be more beautiful.
"Alright, we can't delay any longer. We need to set off quickly, otherwise we won't be able to get back to the tribe before dark and will have to camp out in the wild."
Lechu gently urged Lezhi to stroke his fluffy hair.
"okay."
After speaking, Lezhi stood still, waiting for Lechu to arrange the next steps.
Seeing the cub's indifferent expression, Le Chu had a bad feeling. "Le Zhi..."
"Ok?"
"I said we should leave..."
"Okay, let's go. What should I do?" Blinking, Lezhi looked innocently at Lechu.
“So, you can spread your wings and fly with us now.” Le Chu said, her eyes fixed on Le Zhi, trying to analyze Le Zhi’s thoughts at that moment.
As expected, seeing Lezhi stunned by her words, Lechu sighed softly in her heart, "Sure enough, your inherited memories are definitely incomplete. I was wondering why you never spread your wings."
Finally realizing what was happening, Lezhi abruptly turned his head, his gaze sweeping over the backs of each of his clansmen. He finally understood that the Tree Spirit Clan, or at least the Spirit Feather Clan before him, seemed to be, should be, probably all of them winged.
That means if he is a member of the Spirit Feather Clan, he should also have wings.
Le Chu's next words confirmed Le Zhi's thoughts: "Le Zhi, we Spirit Feather Clan all have wings. Can't you feel the existence of your wings at all?"
Seeing Lezhi nod, a hint of sadness flashed in Lechu's eyes, which he quickly concealed so that Lezhi wouldn't notice. He thought for a moment and then said softly, "I originally wanted to wait until I took you back to the clan to explain this to you slowly, but now it seems that I have no choice but to tell you."
Le Chu folded her wings and led Le Zhi to a shady spot to sit down, looking as if they were about to have a long talk. The Lingyu people not far away saw this scene and seemed to understand what was about to happen, so they also folded their wings and waited in place.
The furball was confused. It didn't understand why Lezhi, who had just been circling around it, was suddenly taken away by that annoying two-legged creature. It followed closely behind Lezhi, and even though it realized they were talking, the furball didn't give up and stayed close to Lezhi, showing no sign of leaving.
At this moment, Lezhi really needed his partner who had always been by his side to support him. Lezhi leaned against Maoqiu's body and looked up at Lechu with trepidation.
Ignoring Maoqiu's actions, Lechu carefully began to speak, "We tree spirits are born from the mother tree. From the moment we are born, we exist to protect the mother tree, so we are born with talents bestowed upon us by the mother tree."
"Most of us are winged beings, except for the aquatic beings, who have fish tails when they enter the water and can survive underwater. In addition, all the terrestrial tree spirits have wings. Wings themselves represent our talents. Because of this, after our race is confirmed, when we are nurtured and matured in the mother tree in our seed shell, the seed shell will naturally fall and return to our clan's territory, where we will hatch and be born within our clan."
"But you are an exception."
Looking into Lezhi's eyes, Lechu managed to utter her last words with difficulty.
"Tree spirits typically gestate for only six months, but you have been in the seed shell for three years and still show no signs of maturity. Moreover, you were not very healthy when you were in the seed shell, and everyone was very worried about you. We were afraid that you would not be able to be born safely. To be on the safe side, all our races agreed that each race would send someone to the place of birth to guard you from time to time until you are fully gestated."
"But then, an unexpected incident occurred..."
